Default SOA Balancing Act for Marketing

Yeah,

This is gotta be a shock for a company that succeeds in the US thanks to Paul Dundee and the Outback. I hope that we can see BOTH WRX performance commercials AND those silly Outback commercials.

Even BETTER! Paul Dundee in the STi!

Open on board rooom at Subaru of America. Office types sitting around wondering what to do 'next'. (Caption: "1999")

On one end, is a younger 'suit' with a laptop surfing the web... comes across the North American Subaru Impreza Club.

Young: "Hey, look at these guys. They have a site just for the 2.5RS! They're turbocharging them. They're asking us to bring over the WRX!"

Everyone else "Good Idea!"

Fade to same board room. (Caption 2001)

Young: "Well the WRX was well received by the public, made the 10 best list and numerous other awards. And look at the membership mubers now at the North American Subaru Impreza Club. They're saying we should bring in the STi!"

Everyone else "Good idea!"

Young "But let's take it one step further. Ever since 1999 they were turboing the 2.5RS, let's have a 2.5L turbo!"

Everyone [Cheers]

[Product shots of the STi zooming past an EVO... and well... just lookjing good... announcing specs etc...]

Announcer "And so it was. When you get it, you get it."

Or actually, more like this:

Open on board rooom at Subaru of America. Office types sitting around wondering what to do 'next'. (Caption: "1997")

On one end, are the Japanese parent excecutives.

Japanese Exec: "Hai doozo, we wish to bring the Im-pu-ret-za WRX to the US this year. We think this will be good idea in marketplace since RX7 and Supra disappeared. We need a sports car since the Alcyone SVX is being discontinued."

American Bill Lumbergh type: "Ummm, yeahhh.... ummm, that's not really what we're thinking, mmkay? Yeaaahhh... this rally stuff is not really our core competency, mmmkay? It's a Subaru, mmkaay? No sports cars here, thanks. We'll do a limited run of this rally sporty type thing with the bigger Outback motor if you really think it's that big of a deal."

Everyone else "Huh?"

Japanese Execs at the end of the room: "Aaah, our wisdom prevails. We will bring the WRX to America. Fate will smile upon us, and people will buy it and see that it is good."

Bill Lumbergh US exec: "Ummmm... yeahhh, ummm.. that's not really what we see happening here....."

Japanese Exec: "SILENCE, STUPID AMERICAN! NO MORE TALK OF OUTBACK! OUTBACK IS BORING TYPE CAR! WE BUILD RALLY CAR!!"

Fade to same board room. (Caption 2002)
