that would be rather subjective. What are you interested in? Rally-x, auto-x or drag racing?

Might want to prioritize your needs.
1)drivabilty
2)power potential
3)lag
etc, etc.

Is one type of racing very important to you, or is it mainly you want some extra power? Are you willing to spend the money required to make safe use of the turbos that develop more peak power?

What is your budget? That will help narrow down the choices.

I have been saving for a while and can afford about $4,000. Driveability is the #1 priority, followed by reliability.

Ludespeed seems to fit your bill, although the kit hasn't been released yet.
JC sports is another quality kit you might consider, although you might have problems with customer service.
Minnam, ASR...

In that range you would want to look at the ludespeed, ASR, or Forced Air Technologies kit.

There is a group buy on the ASR intercooled kit in the classifieds right now. Ludespeed is still finishing up the last group buy so I am not sure when you could get a kit from them.

I got mine from Robert at Forced Air Tech (sorry no website yet) as he is local to me. My RS was his lab rat for his 2.5 liter kit. I am running 5psi of non intercooled boost and it is running well. I am adding a Rallispec IC so I can up the boost to about 7psi.

You can get his email address from my webpage and read more about my kit. Check out the mods/performace section and there will be a link to my turbo kit.

Keep in mind you will want gauges ($250-400), probably a clutch ($350-450) and some other minor pieces.

It is a project but when it is done it is a fun ride

In that price range, you are probably really looking at ASR and ludespeed. ASR is having a GB on a nice intercooled kit for $2800. The thread is here.

The ASR guy says he will fulfill very shortly after that GB is closed. If you wanted to buy a kit outside of that buy, you could get it more quickly, I think.

Ludespeed is completing a GB. They really aren't doing any new Subaru kits until that is complete, but I suspect that after it is complete, they'll do another.

And, as this gets more popular, I would bet that other folks get into the act. Just a hunch.

All of those I have considered and am probably liking the ASR kit just because it is upgradeable later on for what I want for future mods.

Thumbs up

my 2 pence...
yeah to what all those guys said, really depends on what u want, and what u want to do with it. Whether you have a JCS, Minnam, ASR, Rallispec, Redline, Ludespeed turbo is mostly depends on the above 2 factors. Superiority is arguable. and no one has really ever done a turbo kit shootout (despite jcs sports good intentions )
But I have the bestest setup in the whole wide subie dubie world, so copy me and you will be good to go

Yeah, well Myrtle Beach is a long way from Colorado, and apparently you have to live in that big square state in order to get service from JCS. The local guys who deal with them love them. Working remotely is a different matter.

I grew up in SC, so I would never recommend to a South Carolinian trying to deal with JC Sports remotely.

I am in the same boat, i have been asking around for a cople months now and from all i have found is that that ASR kit right now is the best overall kit you can get for the 2.5
I would be on that list right now if i could get a loan or something.

"It" is a project, and believe me, "it" is NEVER finished!! Coz juuuuuuust when you start to get used to "the feeling" you WANT more boost.... then you crank it a little, then a little more then BAM!! Gotta spend MO money!! but "it" IS FUN

I have minnam stage II, and the ONLY thing I would change is to locate the turbo a little higher maybe an inch and a half or so!

Oh, and once you get "blown" you'll NEVER wanna be "sucked" again
