The Minnam intake I've had on my car snapped at the weld for the support brace (awful design), so I started looking for a better alternative, and decided on Larry's GanzFlow as it is cheap, looks great, and retains the stock air box (which is more valuable than you might expect). I also had him include a K&N filter. I've read in a couple of places that panel filters are superior in many ways to cone filters (not to start a holy war, here). Can anyone confirm or deny?
I got the new intake from UPS today and there were no surprises. Larry had kept me up to date on when things would ship, even giving me the option to get slightly different components earlier, but I stuck it out. The kit is excellent. I removed the Minnam intake, removed all the hoses associated with it, and then reinstalled the factory hoses and airbox, now fitted with the K&N filter. I used a razor letter opener to split the tubing to pad the fender opening, and then a couple of twists later, the intake pipe was in. I double checked everything, then started the car up (I've got a TEC-II, so I didn't bother with an ECU reset). The car is suddenly much quieter (this is a good thing after the jet engine of the Minnam), and I really believe the stock air box has a big impact on throttle response. Specifically, with the Minnam the car felt very jerky starting from a stop or downshifting...anything that caused a sudden change in throttle position. With the stock air box back on, that is almost entirely gone. I also feel like I've gotten a little of the low end back that was dropped by the Minnam. So, for those looking at a new intake (probably the single best engine upgrade for our cars), I highly recommend the GanzFlow.

Hey Blindeye,
I ordered my Ganzflow last week, got the Amsoil filter on Thur. Still waiting on the pipe. I really like the new sound at WOT You might want to ask Larry. You will probably have to trim the Amsoil filter to fit. I did. |

Amsoil is wierd sometimes - they'll take 2 weeks to deliver, and others they miss a customer till a second batch is made. They make a batch about every three weeks, but will not tell us in advance when a batch will be made, or when a filter will ship.
I go nuts when AMSOIL takes their time shipping because I have to look up order numbers and sic the customer on AMSOIL's toll free support number to find out why it is delayed. Justin, your order number is #7903479, so call AMSOIL at 800-956-5695 and see if they will help you track it. The S1992 special order filter is being renumbered as a TS129 so in a few months it wont be special order anymore, so I am told. When that happens they will ship faster. The TS74 is what the MY99 and older use in the airbox near the fender, and they ship within a week. Larry www.ImprezaRS.com |

Mind if I ask why you didn't go for the Cobb? If you have a TEC II, money is obviously not that big of a concern.

The Cobb CAI was back-ordered (and still may be), and I didn't see a huge benefit vs the GanzFlow. I'm very happy with my purchase, but I'm sure I would've been similarly happy with the Cobb product.

Thanks Larry,
When I find the time I will call em up. I am just worried about the excess pollen out right now & having that paper filter doesnt make me rest too easy. You do have to trim down the amsoil filter? Or can you just 'shove' it in? Where did you trim it off at? |

Hmmm...my Amsoil filter was a little "big" seeming, but I got it in there, without removing the airbox to do so. Just took a little finessing. I spent about 10 minutes getting it in, but no real problems. There's all that excess foam that you just have to squeeze in the lip of the airbox, so just that metal piece is resting inbetween the front and the rear portion of the box.
I should have taken a picture, but, oh well. Just take your time, it'll work. Neil |

How Much are the ganzflow intakes and where could I order one from. I'm picking up a T.S. Wagon and want to start the mod process. Will I need to do an ECU reset if I install the intake?

I have the Cobb intake. Had to put my stock box back on for some warranty work, I didn't realize the low end that I had lost! Cobb is great at high speeds, but you do loose a little low end. I am thinking of getting Larys intake with filter to see a comparison?!

I am in the market for a CAI but am wondering wether or not the COBB is worth the extra money vs. the cheaper Ganzflow. Has anybody experienced both? Is torque loss on the Ganzflow less because it retains the black filter box?

My Scoob's got the Ganzflow and a catback 2.25" Flowmaster exhaust. The engine had NO LOSS of low end power. It GAINED low end and top end. I'm pretty sure that the purpose of modding our cars is for more power, and that's what these parts do. What's all this talk about loss of low end power?

Modifications can change the way air is delivered to and removed from the engine. For example, putting a 3" exhaust on a normally aspirated RS reduce low end power in favor of top end flow (although 3" is obviously excessive for an NA RS) because there is not enough back pressure with such a large diameter exhaust. Similarly, some intakes cause a shift in the power band away from the low end.
So, that's what all the talk about loss of low end is about. |

I ordered my amsoil from Larry and had it in 6 days. Of course, mine is a different model than the one you guys are waiting on...
It came VERY heavily oiled from the factory. When I peeled off the plastic wrap it was dripping with the purple oil. Very nasty. So I sponged as much oil off as I could then wrapped it up in paper towels and let it dry all day at work. Then I went home and sponged it some more and let it dry overnight. In the morning it was still moist but not all oily and drippy. It would have been a Bad Thing(tm) to put such an over-oiled air filter in a car with a known sensitive MAF sensor. Larry was great though and I highly recomend ordering from him. -Marc |

Frankie, http://www.imprezars.com is the site for Larry's intakes. You don't "have" to do an ECU reset, but it definitely makes the effects more dramatic, noticeable off the bat. The computer will eventually just learn to take advantage of it. Just would take longer.

I saw a picture of the GaznFlow intake and it looks like that they had to drill into the inner wall of the engine bay to get the pipe to get outside. Is this true??? I love the way it looks but I dont like the idea of drilling anything. So whats up?

Larry on your website, the intake is the same for the 00 to 02 RS right ? Then why in the text u say its for the impreza 00/01 ? If its a error well which one is good ? the 00/01 or the 00-02 ?
Jeez... The right question is: this intake fit for the new age impreza rs ? ![]() |

My most recent GTech Pro times on my '00 RS with GanzFlow intake, K&N filter, and Stromung cat-back exhaust:
0-60: 6.9 1/4 mile: 14.9 @ 95 Top speed has increased from 127 to over 130. I hit 130 in under 1 mile and it was still going. Oh, and it was 35 degrees and at about 850 ft. |

I studied the MY02 and saw the holes were the same, so it should work on a 2002. I must have missed a typo on the web page.
I sent one out last week that my silly shipper forgot to cut 1.5" off the end, so the 2002 buyer found it was a tight fit, but it did fit - he is gonna cut the 1.5" off the intake, which should have been cut in the first place and email me back. Also, the AMSOIL is no longer special order as of yesterday - it became TS129 and they claim they will ship in 5-7 days now! Unfortunately Amsoil raised the price too, my cost went up $7 Intakes with AMSOIL are still $2 cheaper than with K&N, and I still discount $11 off the intake when you buy any filter.Larry www.ImprezaRS.com |
