Question Amsoil vs. K&N

Am I posting this topic in the right forum?
Anyways, which one is better for my MY01 RS?
What is the difference?

Thank you so much....

I know the guys on the Toyota 4x4 list I used to be on praised the Amsoil filter. They said it filtered out dirt better. I was at a swap meet in January and there was an Amsoil salesman there. He showed me the difference between them. They do look like they do a better job.

Having handled both filters, I would say the Amsoil wins hands down for filtering dirt out.

It just seems a heckuvalot sturdier to me.

Yes, the Amsoil filters better IMO. Lifetime warranty too. Have the Amsoil in my car and the K&N in my wife's OB.
More info and links in these discussions.

P.S. The search works very well.

I like the AMSOIL, but I sell both.

Amsoil tells me they are now stocking the MY00+ filter, and changed it from part# S1992 to Part# TS129. They say they can ship within a week now! I am too used to it taking 3-5 weeks to go out, so I'll believe that when I see it

Unfortunately they raised the dealer's cost by $7 each also

My vote is also on the Amsoil. I've had both. K&N first and then Amsoil and the Amsoil just seems to be that bit better and that's why I'm keeping the Amsoil in the car.

Good luck,
Stefan

$30-$35 from amsoil.com depending on the size. You could also get it from one of the several dealers around here.

How often are you supposed to clean the AMSOIL filter and how much are the cleaning kits?

a recharge/ cleaning kit will cost around 9$ and I think you're supposed to clean it at least every 25k miles. Mine is in the mail right now (i hope) so someone else may have the correct info on this.

The Amsoil is foam, right? It seems that foam would break down more than the cotton of the K & N, and that the K & N would breathe better even when both types of filters start to collect dirt.

Amsoil is foam but all foam filters are not created equal. One brand (I forget which) is known for breaking apart. I've had my Amsoil for 3 years and it looks as good as new. IIRC, dirt actually aids in the filtration of both filters. It's recommended to clean the Amsoil annually. I've cleaned my Amsoil and my wife's K&N and dirt build-up wasn't that bad on either one.
