Default What does timing belt noise sound like?

Just curious... what exactly does timing belt noise sound like. I've seen it mentioned in manuals, but I don't actually know what it is. Can anyone describe it?

what exactly do you mean by timing belt noise, if its not broken, it shouldnt make any noise....

a timing belt tensioner however could make noise if its going bad, like a rattling noise, could be confused with an engine knock, or ping...

Is your car making a noise? if so what kind where is it coming from..

well, yeah... I really don't know how to describe it, but I should first tell you that I have the 2.2L w/ 99k miles. For the first 5-10 minutes after I start it, it makes a sound kind of like blowing bubbles but a little more harsh. It is NOT a ticking/clicking noise.

coming from, if you couldn't figure it out, the engine. I should also point out that its speed is proportional to engine speed, and it isn't the climate control fan.

I've never heard the sound of harsh bubbles... But i do think my MY00RS makes the same noise. It goes away once the car is warmed up. I do think i have more of a ticking though... I guess it is a hard sound to describe.

Yeah... that sounds about like mine. I said "harsh bubbles" because it sounds like somebody blowing bubbles, but it's more of a hard mechanical sound.
