Post MY02 2.5L Performance

What are all us MY02 RS owners supposted to do about performance? My car is on order and the questions are beginning to whirl around my head... what will fit the the 02? Are exhausts from 01 to 02 compatable. At a quick glance they look similar... but that dosen't count for much. Does anyone plan on making an exhaust system if the old dosen't fit... Stromung, Brullen, Borla? I was thinking of going custom pipe with a Borla muffler but I'd like to shy away from that. I have heard that the Ganzflow will fit on a 02... then I heard of some fitment problems. Shifters... bushings? Are they the same... I know the Rex shifter is different, what about the 2.5? I tried a search on this but the results are so sparattic and contradicting... new parts coming out all the time too. Anyone have any speculation into the 2.5 performance question?

The only fitment problem was that we got some wierd bends from the manufacturer that they passed off on us as normal. So, we had to recall 6 intakes last month - one was for a 2002 - it was definitely bent wrong and we replaced it. One of the 6 was missing an entire bend and didn't even go into the inner fender

There should be no problem with the GanzFlow fitting a 2002 RS now.

Just about any of the NA EJ25 mods from www.cobbtuning.com will work on the MY02, as the motor is the same as pre-MY02.

Talking

To support what Larry said, I installed a GanzFlow on my car last Friday. Fits perfectly. And I love it, thanks Larry!

I don't know about exhausts yet, but I'm hoping to find out soon. I do know that rear sway bars made for a gen-1 RS will fit. I'm planning to put in an 18mm soon. My suggestion: find someone in your area that has stock parts from a gen-1 RS lying around and see if they fit on your car. If they do, you'll know that upgraded parts will fit as well. Be sure to let us know what you find out. Good luck!

[edit] Oh, I almost forgot, I'm also going to be taking some digital pictures of the shifter with the console taken apart for Kartboy. He isn't sure whether it uses the same shifter as the old RS or the WRX, as he hasn't had access to a new RS yet. I suspect it is the same as the old RS (as I'm finding many of the parts are), but we'll have to wait and see.

Jordan

Thank you for the input on the CAI and the upcoming shifter install. I'm not taking delivery until July so I'm really ahead of myself... wait, no I'm not

Brian,

There are subtle changes between the 2001 and 2002 models in both the exhaust and intake side of things. As of right now we do not have a 2002 RS to work off of for development of the parts. If you are close enough and willing to drop the car for a day we'd be happy to work up some prototypes on your car and would give you a price break on the finished product in return.

Dave

So anyone around Philadelphia own a 2002rs?
or do I have to drive out there?

At least he admits to there being a 2002RS. Unlike some people here that still think my RS is a WRX. I even have a picture of the trunklid that says 2.5RS. Now I'm getting PM'ed about what happened to my exhaust (single vs double tipped). I guess Subaru should advertise the new RS. The good thing though is it seem the 2002 RS is much rarer than a WRX. Still haven't seen another 2002RS on the road.

John, I must have explained this to you at least 3 times by now... The rear sway bar on the 2002 RS is EXACTLY the same as the one on a 98-2001 RS. It is NOT LONGER. I don't know who told you that, but I have compared the bars myself with other people present, and I can assure you they are identical. If you are not convinced, I would be happy to set up a meeting somewhere so I can demonstrate the similarity. Deming isn't that far away.

I bought a WRX sway bar from someone who had upgraded to a 22mm, it fits and rides like a dream, and it's fairly inexpensive compared to the "named" brands
