Post First mod! First mod! MRT exhaust system....

Yeah, I know, kinda lame posting about your first actual mod.....but hey, I'm happy!

Anyway, after 7 months, Aly, my RS, has a new set of pipes. I wasn't planning on doing it so soon, but a trip to the Rim Of The World Rally, and some crazy antics by Miss Jamie (sorry J, obligatory hard time!... hee hee ), I ended up with a damaged header and cat. So what better reason for an upgrade?
It's actually simpler to replace the whole system, and so it was done in an hour. Behold....

arrrgh! I'll add more photos later when Photopoint isn't being a pain in the arse!....

edit: ....ok, looks like PP wants to cooperate...

Anyway, the claimed, dyno-tested gain is 16hp, and from the feel of it, that's about right. Sounds much, much better too. I've just had it installed today, and so I'm not sure what all the quirks are yet. But so far, so good....

Gotta fly!

Skippy-
I was thinking of getting the MRT exhaust for my RS, I'd like to see what it does...
Maybe we could meet up one day since I'm about 20 min away..?

I hope to join, the few, the elite, the MRT exhaust users... as soon as my group buy comes to some sort of closure. Chuck, are you going to be at the NE meet this weekend?

How's the sound?

Also have you given any thought to investing in a skid plate to protect these new headers? Might want to fabricate some kind of a cat protector as well.

Know anyone with a lift that might be able to take a pic of the full unit installed?

Oh yeah!
The sound is great!
Course it's already attracted some stares from the coppers around here
And yes, I'm giving serious thought to a skidplate. Those downpipes are just sitting there exposed to the elements, and let's not forget what caused damaged to my stock system in the forst place (big rock). I wasn't able to get it on a lift for pics, but I'm gonna check Photopoint right now and see if it's behaving, so check my first post for the pics....

The sound is quite mellow compared to some of hte other exhausts I've heard. The only time it gets kinda loud is when you're engine braking (in tunnels is the best ).

Is the cat removable? I have intentions of getting the header portion ceramic-coated. Seems like it should be removable, but the above pic doesn't exactly look so.

If only a full exhaust upgrade (with cat) were legal in STS SOLO II class. I'd be all over this set-up as I'm starting to wish my car was a bit louder and well the borla headers aren't equal length so it's a tough decision.. That and the Borla's hang down almost 1" below stock and that likely won't fit under my skid plate.

Hey Omaha, so what class would I fall in Solo II? I'm actually auto-xing this weekend, and I haven't figured out what class I'm in with the new exhaust? Guess they'll tell me when I get there eh?
