Default how to pull cel codes?

i'm going to autozone to try to get a cel pulled. physically speaking, how do you go about pulling the code? is there a machine they give you, and if so, where does it plug in?

a newbie step-by-step description would be helpful. thanks!

It plugs in under the drivers side dash. If they don't know this you should run away and find another place to scan your car, all OBDII connectors are the same and are generally located in about the same place regardless of the type of car, that is part of the OBD standard.
