Default Some new MSRP info from dealer

Just spoke to a local dealer... was told that STi's MSRP will be
roughly 30% more than the WRX...

Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks,

That would equal about 31,200 which would be roughly the low 30's. So hypothetically speaking I'd say it could possibly be in the ballpark, maybe.

Nobody can confirm anything though, because those who know aren't talking and the rest of us just don't know.

That would be perfect (~31-32k). Another posted that their dealer said MSRP will be about 34-35. Still some missinformation going around.

However, having keeping good contact with my dealer, I know the boss of the dealership just got back from a meeting with the Subaru execs learning all about the car (price, allotment, etc). They are not talking yet, but this does explain the couple posts of dealers knowing the MSRP.

It also does sound like the 300-400 per month number is correct. This is about 4000/year. This means that some dealers will get 1/month, some none and a few will get a handfull. Hopefully we should know some more soon.

Anyway, I'm hoping that the $32 number is the right one. $35 is just getting way too high.

Some i-club guy is saying the "Subaru Reps" said that MSRP is going to be between $34-$38K. I am certainly not saying he is correct but I do know that I don't know who to believe so I don't believe anyone. I personally do not see how it can be more than $33K but I think $31-$33K is the smartest thig for Subaru to do. Once they go higher than that, I think they will lose too much of their target audience.

Here is the latest on the STI
Hi everyone,

I thought that you would all like to know the latest news on the STI. We just met with Subaru Reps today and this is what was relayed. The STI will be availble in 4 colors. WR-Blue, Silver, White and Black. The MSRP will be between $34K and $38K depending on how you order it. I can not say this for all dealerships, but I know that we can order right away. Options will be pretty limited on this car. First delivery dates will be early June. Hope this helps.

If it is "roughly" 30%, a 25,000 WRX plus 34% is $33.5k. I'll stick to that as my estimate with the radio another $500.

That's what I thought... there is ONLY speculation at this point. I would still be in the game if it comes in at under $34K. I think I am pretty safe. I will sell that big@ss wing to get into my target price

I do think that they need to keep the car between $31K and $33K. That would be thier best move.

Just cuz I have nothing else to do right now:

WRX MSRP: $23,995
WRX MSRP + 30% = $31,193.50

I like my calculations better anyway

let's see soa starts to believe the hype -charges 34K and my dealer is charging 2k+ msrp (ditto on the hype).

Wow! 36K not really in the "bang for the buck" hall of fame anymore.

Thanks profiteers for f-ing another one up!
pk!

that g35 is looking better everyday and my wife doesn't hate that one.

That is why they can't go too far from the EVO price -- the EVO is still a pretty good deal.

yep soa is giving mitsu. a late christmas present if they come in close to 35K. EVO fans were pissed when they heard the STI specs but the price 29,9 was still a great deal.

SOA still has a chance to give this one back to Mitsu if they're not careful.

The ball's in their court -I hope they don't trip over it.

Well, just to add to the mis-information from dealers...mine said the first allocation was coming in late April/early May. He also mentioned that there was supposed to be a STi dealer/journalist demo in Arizona next month (similar to what they did for the WRX).

I don't think Subaru's target audience is the same for the STi as it was for the WRX. I think they are now looking to pull customers from the Audi S4/BMW M3 catagory. Even if the car sells for 38K, to those target groups, it's a steal. To most of us, it's out of reach.

35K FOR AND IMPREZA, STI OR NOT .....IT IS STILL AN IMPREZA.
I CAN SPEND MY MONEY ON A MUCH BETTER CAR FOR 35K
at 35k that is more than 10k over the wrx just plain crazyness.
M3/A4 buyes will never by an impreza. Especially with the huge wing.

Just wanted to let people know that we (Local Suby Dealer) just had a sales meeting with our regional rep. She stated that the Price on the STi would be "under 35K". I stated right of the bat that the EVO would be some 6 grand less! She did not say anything. Take it for what it is worth.

I havent been at the marketing meetings but I feel tht the target audience for the WRX is more the 18-23 year old who isn't set in a career and doesnt have tons of money(although they are pricxey enough). Someone who still wants to have fun. Of course you have plenty of 30 yr olds with families in the WRX as well. We have seen the WRX commercials....I dont seen them going after the 45 yr old buisnessman.

I think the STI is going more for the person who has graduated from the WRX status but isnt quite to the M3/S4 price bracket. There will be about a 10K (so we think) price difference from those high end cars. I really think there is a group between the WRX type and price of car and the M3/S4 group. That is why we are suddenly getting very specific types of cars in a certain price bracket. (Evo, STi, 350Z, RX-8, G35) Of course performance is also a big issue with the target audience for this car which can make is not just about the money.

Of course this is based on the money issues of the target audience and not performance of the car. It's just no longer about if you can afford a low $20k or a $45K+ car. We have a lot of cars in the middle now.

Of course to prove your point, we are getting rid of our 2001 S4 for the STi.

In Australia the STi new age but not the latest was 24% abovethe WRX. A$41 for standard WRX (much better equiped than the US WRX and A$51 for the STi which is less equiped than the US spec STi.

They had a lot of trouble moving the new age WRX due to looks and insurance premiums sky rocking. A$3-4000 a year. The exchange at the moment is .58 cents.

It may be there's some crossover but I don't think it's exactly the same. Which is a good thing since an M3 starts at $47k! The problem is that with those other cars you get a lot more luxury and close to the same performance. Take the Infinity G35. While it's *only* 280hp, go to their website and see what you get for the mid-30's. You get an Infiniti Navigation System (with cool 3D graphics and LCD screen). You get full automatic climate control. A Beautiful interior and I'm sure incredible seats and a 6-disc radio system with lotta speakers. Really the only thing they don't have is 4WD and DCCD and a couple other gadgets and 20hp.

If Subaru prices it too high, people will still like the performance, but they'll be left wondering, "Is that all the car has to offer?" Really the EVO is not as far behind performance wise as people on this board thing (I am willing to bet once it comes out) and it's only slightly more "econo-japanese" interior than the STi. If they want more than $5-7k more than the EVO, I think they're moving away from a "good deal."

But maybe, as you point out, Subaru doesn't care. But as others have pointed out, it would move away from the pricing strategy used in the rest of the world. When I was in Japan the new STi was selling for around 3,330,000 yen. Which is roughly $30k US.

To sum up: Subaru better keep it under $35!
