Post Would COBB tuning performance cams work with a 96 2.2L?

Would COBB tuning performance cams work with a 96 2.2L? This looks like the best N/A engine mod to me for the price. If these would not work are there ones out there that would? Where s the cheapest place to get the cams?? Thanks for your help!

Bill

They are similar enough that Trey hasn't ruled it out---

*BUT* his last comment on it I saw was that if they wanted cams, a 2.2L enthusiast would have to loan or donate him a set of heads.

That's the only way Trey is going to find out if the late model 2.2L (non-turbo) can use them. If it can, then you have to see if the regular street grind will work without setting a CE light and does help more than hurt.

Don't quote me on this, but I think that the newer 2.2L's can used the Cobb street cams (since this is a phase 2 engine)... not sure about the older ones though...

I honestly hope to know one of these days. I need to measure some stuff on the 2.2L heads, to verify they will in fact work. Things like rocker arm ratios, valve spring coil bind, rates, etc could all potentially be different, even if the cam looks like it will fit.

Plus, with the fact that the EJ22 heads have only ONE exhaust port, versus TWO on the EJ25 head, I would like to flow bench this and see what modifications, if any, will be necessary to my exhaust profile.

A few people have threatened to send me EJ22 heads to build up a killer EJ22 motor, but I have yet to see anything. Once I get them, I'll be more than happy to develop some parts for them.

Thanks,
Trey

If Trey doesn't know, it would be safe to assume no one does.
