Exclamation K & N Cone/Cylinder Filter Question

Im looking for a K & N cone or large cylinder type filter that will fit on the end of my 3" Weapon R tubing.

So i would need one with a 3" Inside flange measurment, and then it would fit, right?

Does anyone know a part number of a good style (im looking for a large filter here, not a small cone, but a long cone or cylinder)?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Justin

K&N recently introduced filters with flow-through tops. These look like they're going to be better than the recessed-cone designs which were all the rage in the '90s. The big one is XS-3990 which is 6" tapering to 4" and 8.5" long.

JP - what year do you have? I have a 98, and ordered my K&N from Larry@imprezars.com. I'm still waiting on Cobb's or Larry's Cold Air Intake before I do anything more to the intake though.

I had to tweak the mount a bit in order for the MAF to sit right, but I'm considering going back to a Panel filter due to the fragility of the MAF.

hacman, I am told that if you don't over-oil the filter you should be okay, especially since you still have the stock air plenum to absorb the intake pulse harmonics.

How does it perform now, after the ECU reset?

after the reset? umm.... I'll let ya know after I reset it in the morning... lol... I thought we didn't need to with this one?

I know that even without the reset, the throttle is a tad more responsive, and she pulls a little harder above 4k. Hopefully, Kartboy will have the MAF mounts made up soon (Like Peaty's I think?).

So, until I get the CAI setup, you'd suggest NOT replacing the tube with a new one?

I've got a 2000 RS. No MAF here, and i've already gotten rid of my stock plenum, im going to attach a large cone filter of some kind to the end of my Weapon R 3" intake piping. I ordered a large K & N with a 3" flange measurment, we'll see if that one fits.. if not i'll probably see if mark can hook me up with a pipercross one, in that size.

later,
JP

Well K&N pn RU-3580 has a 3" connector, and was abotu $35 from Autozone. I had to order it, but it was in the next day.

Edit:
here is a Website with scanned copies of the custom application K&N filters.

All the websites insist on asking what model , etc. and only suggest an OEm part. So, I went to Advance Auto and just looked through the K&N catalog. I bought a cylindrical filter with a 3" ID connection, that is 6" in diameter by 6" long (plenty big) paid only $30. I'll post the part # later when I get home.

it killed that deadspot for the most part. Did the reset Saturday, but I didn't notice too much of a difference. I still really wanna get one of the CAIs that get rid of the airbox.

(edit)

Lemme rephrase a bit there... I didn't notice much difference resetting the ECU, but I did notice the difference between the Stock box, and the Cone Filter. Pulls harder, and longer.
