Default MRT header back reviews

There is a lot of information about the MRT headerback systems spread around, but I thought it would be nice to collect some people's opinions on the setups for the GC8 and the WRX here. Please feel free to contribute.

I really like the MRT header back's power boost, no CEL, sound, and it seems to withstand the first winter quite well. I don't like the fact that it's mild steel and a rattle around 2000 rpm. I'm planning to Jet-Hot coat the header, throw on a durable high flow universal cat, and make it a full Jet-Hot coated 2.5" system with a less restrictive muffler when I'm going Supercharged.

Het Kickin,

I have read some people's comments about the durability of the cat being an issue, but I would think that the cat is just as stable as most other universal cats. A nice cat such as random tech seems to be a little pricey for me, and no matter what, it looks like it would take some modifying to get a cat hooked up with the MRT system... Where do you think the rattling is coming from?

Hey, I thought this was a 'review only' forum? Ok, I don't know if it's my cat, or not, that causes the rattling. I went under my car three times to tighten some things up I didn't do before, and it could be vibrations from the air pulses that are causing the hooks to vibrate against the header. I don't think the aluminum is that thick and being aluminum, it'd be a total guess for me to try to figure it out. What I plan to do is have the shop cut off the cat and weld on flanges at the cut. That way I can Jet Hot coat the whole header (inside + out) and see if there are loose debris inside the cat that came with the MRT system. I can replace the cat if necessary with any universal high flow cat (and there's a lot out there). But this will happen in the summer when I can take a bike to work instead and set my car out for a few days until I get the header back from Jet Hot. Dreaming and planning sux.

I just got mine installed on the weekend. Came off a friend's car here in Asheville. Anyway, the power boost I get from this system is REALLY noticeable. Templar, who I bought it from, never had the axleback part that it came with put on the headers, instead, he put a Magnfalow on the back. The sound that my car makes is absolutely amazing. It sounds almost beautiful. I would say that this system is one of the best uses of money Ive had for my car. Its really an amazing system. I would reccommend either a gutted cat, or a higher flowing cat with these headers, youd be amazed at the difference it makes. The one I have is just a gutted stock cat.
