Exclamation Amsoil filter does not fit!

I am trying to install it this morning and it just seems too big. I am installing it with the mesh facing the throttle body. It is just too big. I even took both halves of the airbox completely out of the car, and still can't get the filter in between them so that they close. I know that others have had trouble, what is the solution? Please help.

Ok, it's in. It has to be done JUST the right way. Let's just say that it was a cast iron bitch. I'm sure it will be worth it, and I will know how to do it next time.

How do you get the airbox off to put the filter in?!

---I am still waiting for mine...still using my paper filter with my ganzflow.

The airbox is attached by two screws that are readily visible out front. Other that that, there is a hose clamp that locks it to the throttle body and three vacume hoses that you just slide off. Pretty easy. I took a drive around after the install and ECU reset, and no real gains yet (not enough fuel I guess) but it is even louder than just the Ganzflow alone. Pretty cool!

I had the same issue with my Amsoil. I think I spent an hour trying to wedge that fat foot into a stilleto heel. Once I had it in and did the ECU reset, I definitely noticed the wicked sound and I also felt a little increase in power according to my butt dyno.

Yea, mine was a PITA too, it's now in there, but all warped, I hope it doesn't effect its performance. Damn, just a 1/4 of an inch shorter and it would fit perfect.

I know the easiest way to put it in is to stuff it into the rear half with the mesh facing the engine. You'll notice that the edges of the filter will hang over/past the rim of the rear half of the airbox. Then swing the rear of the airbox forward and latch it closed.

It is a PITA but worth it!

Put mine in today. I really don't think it fits either. I'm thinking about chopping it off like 1/2 unless it's supposed to just hang off the edge like 1/2 an inch. It's also bent and warped now from trying to jam it in there.

Is it a bad thing to have the filter warped and mushed in there? I am wanting to get an amsoil after every K&N autozone has ordered for me has not fit (first one was 4 inches too long, second one was 3 inches too wide, etc etc) but I am kinda concerned about this fit issue.

I have a 99 so keeping stuff away from that pesky MAF is a must!

Hey remarcable, your Outback would take a TS74, which is different than the one these guys are talking about. Subaru went to a different airbox for MY00 and 01. They have to use (until recently anyway) a special order filter, which I've never personally seen or used. I've got the TS74 in my wife's 96 Outback and my 98 Legacy, and it fits good. I'm not sure what to say about the fit issue with their cars.

Hey guys, is there a measurable difference between the factory filter and the Amsoil?

Cool

can't say there's a huge difference but it sure does sound meaner! But some pliers, cutters and elbow grease did the job after many scratches and bumps. Now the exhaust barks instead of burps during acceleration.

can't tell fer sure, the intake made no noise before and still doesn't seem to cuz I still got the stock air box, but the exhaust seems louder, maybe I just can't tell where the sound is comin from!
