We just got done replacing the 2.5 Auto tranny for a manual. Everything is working really well... except for the idle.
While cruising at speed and taking it out of gear (and taking load off the engine) and coasting to a stop, the engine sometimes drops below 500 rpm and kicks the engine into "gimp mode". Is there anyone out there who has done this conversion and come across the same problem? Any advice at this point would be welcomed.. thanks in advance

Wow, how much did it cost for you to do the swap?

Actually a friend with a 98 RS put a WRX motor in his rally car last year so we had the extra trans lying around. TeaguesAuto helped with some of the harder to find parts (i.e. pedal assy, rear diff and new driveshaft) All in all, the cost was about 1K for the used parts (all under 20K miles)
The swap took a week or so working part time. The hardest thing so far has been the three pairs of jumpered wires (reverse lights, park/neutral safety switch, and the key removal safety lock) had to be jumpered which were at first a bit elusive. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to give details of needed items/part numbers. |

For the idle problem, I did remove the giant snorkus that hangs into the fender. Could this have adverse effects to idle dropdown?
-so basically I have the stock airbox just pointing into an open fender with no scoop or snorkus. What do you think? |
