Post 4 wires going to distributor....which one is the negative

well i finally got the n2o finished...went to take it for the test spin...and never worked....

the only thing i can think that could be wrong is that my rpm module says to hook a white wire to the negative side of the coil....well there was 4 wire going to the distributor/coil...guess what...i picked the wrong one....i choose the black with green strip....wasnt it...

so my question....which wire is the negative wire...

thanks,
space

do you have an ohm meter? or a test light, see wich one has ground with the meter, or just try every wire till it works .

I cant remember but if you have test light, back probe each wire, if it has power all the time its not the ground, so if you have three with power and one with out, thats ground.

Also if you crank the engine with the test light probing the ground wire it the test light should flash, while you crank....I think...ahh
sorry this probably didnt help, My brain hurts right now, cant think strait....

I believe that the tach receives its signal from the ECU rather than from the coil. But why would you want to ground to anything but the block? For the engine speed you should be able to tap the engine speed wire at the ECU. There is no really good reason to try and tap it elsewhere.

Also, if you can't get the RPM module to work, wire it without the module and get it to work period, then worry about shoehorning in the RPM unit.

ok i think i know which one is the negative...

there are 2 wires that are blue with green strips....how when i hooked up my super afc, i THINK i remeber the rpm wire going to the ecu being blue with green strips...

now since theres 2, one goes to the ecu and the other goes to the tach....
the red has to be the positive and the black with green strip, being the ground....

sound resonable to me....now i cut into on of the 2 same color wires hooked it up and nothing again....

im going to go ahead to check to see if it has power...so meanwhile any other idea why i might not be getting power?

thanks,
space
