Have a Nice Day? Just shecked my oil! HELP!

I did an oil change like 2000 miles ago. Yesterday I slammed on my brakes and the oil light came on breifly. I decided to check the level of the oil when I got home. The dipstick showed that I have no oil! Where did it go!?!?!

Did you replace the crush washer when you changed oil last time? Do you have the factory guage pack?

Well, if your engine was hot, it's probably still in the engine! Let it cool an hour or so and check it again.

No way-- the dipstick will read more or less accurately when it's hot.

Adam, if you say the low oil light then you're waaaay low. Look under the car and see where it went-- if you're loosing it that fast (2000 miles and probably over 2 quarts low) surely you can see it somewhere on the bottom. Look at the oil filter and drain plug.

Make sure they're tight enough and then get it on level ground and start adding oil until the dipstick reads properly.

Hi Adam! What year is yours? How many mileage is in your car? My car seems to consume at least a litre or so every 2000km.
Mine is a 98RS with 93000km.

Cool I'll do that asap! Thanks for all of your help. BTW: my car is a 2000 with like 24,000 miles on it! I just hope that I dont have to be spending $30 every two months on Mobile Synthetic!

Damn, Colman, that's a lot of oil. I haven't burned a drop in 5k miles, and I drive hard. You might want to check for a leak.

Hi Gavin. Visually there's no leak at all.. No white smoke coming out from the tail pipe too. It just leaving me no clue why my car is consuming oil? Sometimes it consumes a litre or so in 2000km, sometimes the dip stick appearing there's almost no oil in the engine. But the most wierd part is the oil light doesn't never turns on. But yesterday I check my oil level, it doesn't consume a drop. Very strange!

Adam,

Let it sit a bit - these engines still do drain oil back to the pan.

Colin - Last I checked, they made dipsticks so that line to line is 1 quart.

Wink

8- last I checked, no car only 1 quart low will EVER set off the low oil idiot lamp, except perhaps on a banked oval-- say Texas Motor Speedway.
