Question Intake + exhaust without headers. Am I missing something?

I've got the Stromung dual tip + midpipe on my MY98 and I'm holding out for either the Cobb tuning or Ganzflow 98 intake. I wasn't planning on investing the $400.00 or so on headers, but am interested in learning more about this setup. As far as I've gone in my research, it seems as if the headers just "Unlock the great boxer sound" but for that much $$$, I'd much rather buy something more useful than a noise maker. Would any of you cats and kittens care to school me on this topic, pro or con?

I can't say too much about the new Borla headers. All I know about them is that the majority of people have CE lights coming on with the headers on, BUT the majority of them also like it as well. Not sure about power gains though.

I for one have had the original Borla headers dyno'd on my car...let's just say I wasn't impressed with the loss of power in the low and mid range only to gain a barely noticeable few horses up top. Good thing for me it wasn't my headers...hahaha...they merely dyno'd it on my car.

Evil: You could sell your Stromong and get the full MRT header back exhaust. 14 hp and 13 ft/lbs of torque. I have heard conflicting results on the Borla headers. They arnt equal legnth like the MRT, and i have herd gains as small as less than 1 hp. I have no personal experience though, this is what i have seen/read.

I believe Scott at SPO dyno'd headers with a cat-back system and reported gains 11-12 hp and some torque gains. So the borlas are supposed to be good 6-7 hp. I have them and butt-dyno confirms small increase.

The borlas may be getting a bum rap for ce light problems. My ce light problem turned out to be a bad fuel injector spraying way too much fuel and saturating one cat and possibly both.

The borlas change the car into something else even more pleasing in sound and feel.

Well, I just but the borla header and cat-back on. I did notice a diffence. Know the more mods that you have the better gain you will get with other mods. Like I got the header and cat-back from borla. Know I am goin to but my cobb full cold air on in about a week so Iam sure I will get better gains from my exhuast. Just for the fact of what go's into the more faster has to come out faster. So with just header and cat-back but no intake you will not notice all that much.. And I have heard it sounds like a VW and I have have heard it sounds like a bike.
