Unhappy unusual noises- post Rally Cross

Has anyone had problems with their powertrain after doing Rally X's? The sound is similiar to a turbo whine but is sounds like its ocilating. And it only does it under half to full acceleration UNDER LOAD. in neutral, reving only produces the sound briefly. I was at a local Rally X this past wekend and several peeps said the heard a troubling noise coming from my car as i went around the track. I did a lot of left foot braking(probably more than i would normally because the track was very muddy and traction was almost non existant). i did a few handbrake turns a well... however, i noticed this problem(under load) BEFORE i went to the Rally X.... is my tranny/centre diff living on borrowed time?? HELP!!!! (but then again... if it is on its way out it should be covered under my indep. Ext warranty

Thanks guys

Christian,
Take your car to a car wash that has the high pressure hose and wash the underside of your car really well. Maybe it'll jar whatever's in there loose. Also, you may have worn your brakes down to the sensor. When I left foot brake it makes a pretty awful noise sometimes too. But, I doubt its anything as drastic as the diff going south.

Exclamation

I can see your point, however i had the car inspected the day before! and I asked them specifically about the brakes, and He said that they were fine. ( though the tires didn't pass) And the noise was there BEFORE the RAlly. And again, it only comes on ynder a loaded acceleration!!! go figure??!! I don't believe that the clutch is slipping... could it be the center diff plates wearing out do to the stress of racing?? and how do i post this in the motorsports forum as well???

hey Blaster!! you probably saw me @ the Rally X on Sat. my inpreza was the one witht the STi banner o the L side MY99 the intake is stock... i reviewed my video footage and it seems to happen when i was left foot braking for a turn.... I think it's the center diff.. (although other theories are welcome at any rate, i'll have the dealer look at it... that way the cos t to me will be nil. like i said earlier, the noise was there BEFORE the Rally.... probably a result of the San Remo U-turns i've done MAN! there's nothing like an AWD car spinning all 4 tires on tarmac

I saw you - I was the grid Nazi for the first heat. I told you the hand brake wasn't that good a move.

Have a Nice Day?

yeah i know... but could that really be the cause of the nosies??? if so???how hard is it to replace the unit myself? Also... should I replace the diff with a higher grade one that is designed to take that kind of abuse??

I had mud/clay/rocks caked around the front differential in my outback and it was making a similar noise. Had to get it up on ramps and take a chisel to the muck to get it off. I ended up with a pile of dirt about 2 feet high.
