Question Recommended guages? Newbie questions

I currently have the OEM boost gauge but think that i might need a few more. I am planning on just some minor power mods (up pipe, ecutek reflash, perhaps downpipe [already have Prodrive muffler]).

Now what 3 gauges should I get? EGT? Air Fuel?Or do I really need to monitor anything other than boost since its not too extreme as far as mods go.

I've also noticed that some gauges are angled to the right (for right hand drive cars I assume). Are there left angled gauges?

And last question...what are the most accurate/best gauges out there?

are you just looking to get 3 to fill up a gauge pod? there are a bunch of different options for them, i would worry about which gauges first, then figure out the pods later. there are pods that fit just about anywhere so dont' worry. EGT is very useful. every other gauge is sort of by preference. i also have an oil temp gauge - not really that necessary but it's nice to see when your car is warmed up. some want oil pressure, but i think with your re-flash, you can probably reprogram when the oil pressure dummy light comes on and set it higher than whatever the ridiculously low number it is at. water temp, etc etc, you can search for more details. Air/Fuel is a waste unless you get a wideband. also you won't be doing any tuning with the reflash so i don't think you'd ever use it for anything besides looks.

accuracy, i have my greddy peak/hold EGT and it is very responsive and accurate. if you go with autometer, the probe that comes with the pyrometer is sort of slow, people have had good luck using a westach thermocouple or the competition probe. defi uses the same probe as the greddy, omori probably uses the same probe too since they own greddy. don't know about the others.

tdxflex thanks for the info. Yeah, I would like to get the dash mounted 3 pod, probably defi, and it would be good to fill it with something useful. I'll probably go with an Omori/greddy/Defi set up. I'm also new to turbo tuning so I don't know what is important to monitor esp. since engine management will all be controlled by the "stock" ECU. Admittedly, its probably more for looks than anything else. I've always liked lots of gauges even though most of the time you don't really need to monitor them.

So EGT and perhaps oil temp, is it so far as a recommendation? Hmm, what else can I fill that last hole with? maybe a new clock?

There's a new system that lets you monitor most of the stock sensors (as seen by the stock ECU) which is simple to install and might also be cost effective, given the prices of individual gauges and an OBD-II scanner.
See:

It also lets you read and reset Check Engine light trouble codes. It may not have that "cool" factor that you might be looking for. Instead, it has a "serious business, no fooling around with flashing lights" aura.

thanks Jon, forgot about that option. It looks really good actually and I might prefer that over gauges. More functionality in the end. One thing the gauges has is the "instant" access to info rather than having to toggle between different screens.
