Default Why do people feel the need to register names according to what's popular?

I've always found this quite annoying

First someone registers IGC to try to look cool. Then someone registers IGC-SUX to try to one up them.

Today I see "CheeseRocket" and "WavingKitty"

Other times, we've been blessed with more original names, which are just based on jokes (wish I could remember which ones now, but I'm sure others will remember some).

What's the point? Is it an effort to try to become more popular on the board? Do you find these jokes just SO hysterical, that you feel the need to register under such a name, therefore making the joke no longer funny? Ugh, what gives? Originality people!

it was sorta original at first, a while ago...
I think it was fishguy's ass that started it all... but it's a bit annyoing.
Maybe someone really wants to be wavingkitty, and now can't because somone registered it and isn't going to ever use it again.

I have no idea what your name is, nor does it matter.

It's not like someone registering "Brucelee's Oil" or something...

Anything is better than names containing "Subaru", "Scoobie" all varients included, "WRX", "Impreza" and soon to be "STi". This probably applies to most of the "OG"s but that's my take.

Yea... I plead guilty.

With the name changes today I thought it would be funny to register as a different name, post once or twice and put it rest.

CheeseRocket is now retired.

I don't mean to cause any problems. I'm just here for SoLo OnE. I see he's starting to lose his grip on reality, my plan is almost complete.

Gotta get back to work..
