my short shift lever is finished besides the weld...

well, my short shift lever is VERY close to being finished. it will be finished today at lunch, i have to get the bushing housing peice welded onto the shaft and then it is finished. if you have been keeping up with this thread "Topic: my short throw shifter lever draft, what do you think?" (do a search), this is what you have been waiting for

i will take pics at lunch and post them tonight. i cant wait to install this tomorrow (maybe even tonight if i am feeling ambitious, i have nothing else to do besides read for Web Design class so...). if you read the original post above, you will see the complete draft of my lever.

my lever is shorter in length than all the others i have seen (i am only 5'7" so this is perfect, expecially with my custom made shift knob (2" tall).

<u>Total Length</u>:
my lever = 8-1/4"
Kartboy = 8-3/4" (guesstimate)
STI = 10" (guesstimate)

it is much like the STI Replica sold by Imprezars.com and cobb tuning, but my lever incorporates the shifter boot seat (unlike all the others out there, which i thought was very important). it was a great deal of work to come up with dimensions and the draft, but i did it for fun and to incorporate my changes

but anyone is welcome to use my design if they wish, i am NOT producing these; sorry, it was just for fun.

this is the draft the machine shop went by that was well worth my time to put together:

Sweet, can't wait to see how it turned out! And don't forget to trim up the metal surround around the shifter, you'll really need it with the height of your bushing mount.

Wow, nice fabrication. What type of machine did you get to mill that ball on the end? Is the shaft and collar one piece billet turned on a lathe, or did you weld the collar on. Either way, post your performance review of it when you put it in.

i will take some more pics of it installed, it is definenately a short throw.

not to much more effort than stock, but a difference. but the throw is amazingly shorter!!!! it is all stainless steel, probably lathed, i had a local machine shop make it from my draft. i love it!

yes it is short, especially with my custom made shift knob. the knob is modeled after the STI Carbon fiber knob, but all aluminum (cost: $15 for the knob).

oh, and the whole thing is machined, even shifter boot seat.

i now have to adjust the shifter boot because it is bunched up.

Wow, that is a stubby little shifter! Did you stay with the 2-1/2" from the bottom of the ball to the center of the bushing? Can't wait to see pics of the install!

yeah it is stubby and it is great (the shifter anyway). i believe it is only a 1/2" shorter in overall length than the kartboy.

i used the final draft in the "final Draft" post. it was 2.5" from where the ball meets the shaft to the center of the bushing housing. or 3-3/16" from the bottom of the ball to the center of the bushing housing.

check back at the top for the draft i made and, the machine shop went by it without a problem at all.

total cost was $100, and well worth it because it incorporates the shifter boot seat so the boot does not fall down and it is short in height, especially with the 2" tall knob.

oh, and all that needs to be done after being made is that the ball has to be filed down a TINY bit on the sides like the stock ball. i did this on 4 sides instead because the ball is 1/32" to 1/64" larger in diameter than the stock ball, which is very minute difference but makes the world of a difference when trying to insert the ball into the socket..

yes could have had it sooner but:

Q: does yours have a shift boot rest?
A: no, but mine does.

Q: how tall is your shifter lever from
bottom to top?

A: taller than mine, and mine is a total
height of 8-1/4" and is a very short
throw.

time really wasnt an issue, better ergonomics was the most importance. i wanted the overall height to be shorter and for the shifter boot to stay put and not fall down.

your shifter lever is talked about very often and i designed my own after yours and Cobb tunings, but incorporating features i thought were important. i am glad i did

**note** i am not selling these and have no intentions of selling these, but my draft is here for everyone to use if the choose. if you have any questions at all let me know.

again i designed my own and had it made to incorporate unique features not found on any other, and it was fun too.
