Default Shipping/bringing in a JDM engine to the US from Canada

I have a source for a JDM Impreza STi engine with the whole driveline, and the guy is located in Montreal (about 6 hours away from me). How do I deal with customs? Can I bring it in by a truck and just let them inspect it at the border (and pay a tax, I'm assuming), or is it a process that takes a few weeks and a lot of paperwork and is best left for someone who's delivering it to me?

There should be customs number that you can call (you can probably find it at www.customs.gov) and ask them. A guy I work with called some number to find out about bringing a whole car into the US from Canada, and they told him all that he needed to know.

I would think that with an engine you could just show up at the border with it, and pay the fee. You would probably want to find out for sure though.

well let me tell you, customs is a joke. i towed a 93 legacy turbo wagon across and they didnt even ask me for any paper work or nothing. you gotta love border control. i could of had pounds of drugs in there and a bomb or i could of stole the car. and i was with two muslim kids too. this is when they busted the guys in buff who were terriosts. its crazy they didnt even bother me. it all depends on the person at the border. oh well good luck though. also i called customs and asked about bringing a car over the border and they didnt even have an answer they jus gave me the run around.........
