Default Is there any affordable driving/racing schools in the area?

I was speaking with my dad the other day and i brought up the idea of us going to a racing school this summer because it would be alot of fun. He agreed and told me to look into it. We both love racing so it would make for good bonding time

neither have much experience so i am not looking for something high end but that would be fun nonetheless, and neither of us want to spend alot to do one either. So if anyone has any experience with this i would really really appreciate it!!

we are willing to travel for somewhere, too.

and i need this, because i figure it will be good for me since i am a fairly new driver and could use some track experience to gain some basic racing skills/knowledge!!!

thanks everyone!

-dan

edit: i think i spelled like two words right in that entire post

You would probably benefit most from a "performance driving" school such as Skip Barber. They run schools at Lime Rock, not cheap but worth it. They may have different packages depending on how many days and what type of instruction you want.
For a less expensive alternative, contact some local clubs such as NASA or the nearest chapter of BMWCCA, they run track schools several times a year at nearby venues including Lime Rock, Pocono, VIR etc. A major difference between the professional schools and the club schools is at a club school you will use your own car rather than having the cars provided. The qualilty of instruction is not that different, many of the club instructors have years of racing and teaching experience.
One thing to bear in mind, most if not all of these schools will probably have a minimum age of 18 so although it's a good thing you want to get some track experience you may have to wait a bit.

I don't know what kind of school you were looking for, but evolution school is amazing for the money. Its around 200 for the day but its for auto-x stuff. the website is www.autocross.com/evolution
They have a school coming in a few months to the philly area I think. Its under the calender section of the website. Actually the last time I went, there was a kid that just got his license, was still tentative in the car (a concord sp?) and by the end of the day, he was looking really smooth and beating his dad for times. Just a suggestion

Loved the 2 day driving school up at lime rock with Skip Barber - amazing time, and looking to do the 3 day race program (read: $$$$ that I don't have )

But do a search for my name and "barber" and you can read what I thought about it.
