Post Mid pipe install

I expect to get my Stromung 2.25 SS mid pipe in the next day or so. I have the Brospeed/Subaru Performance Muffler. I have done a search and looked at recent posts, but it is unclear to me whether this will be a bolt on item or whether I will need new gaskets (or possibly trim existing gaskets). If anyone knows, or has pics of an install to assist me that would be great.

Thanks.

It's always wise to change the gaskets when you change exhaust elements.

However, it seems unlikely that a Stromung mid-pipe is going to fit with a non-Stromung muffler. Unless the length and inlet location of the Brospeed is identical to the Stromung, it's not going to work.

I was advised by Irvine Subaru/Flatliner and Cobb Tuning that it would fit. I would think that all of the mufflers end at the same location.

they use the same location but the problem is the flange on the midpipe that connects to the muffler might be different.

If it helps any, the stromung mid pipe bolts right up to the stock muffler using the stock gaskets.

Revision, if the Stromung mid pipe fits the stock muffler, than it will not be a problem with the Brospeed/Subaru performance muffler. I know this because I have the Brospeed muffler, and for a while I used it with the stock mid pipe, until I got the 2.25 mid pipe from Subaru. By the way, I got the mid pipe for $180, how much is the Stromung one?

Yep. Stromung midpipe fits with stock muffler. (I'm running that now until I exchange for the right midpipe for my muffler) Stromung midpipe does not fit with STi v6 muffler as I learned today that SPD sent me the wrong midpipe for my muffler.

The stainless steel 2.25 (57 mm) was $150 from Flatliner. Everywhere else I could find it it was listed for $168. My understanding is that the mid pipe that comes with the Brospeed/Performance mufflers is only 2", but the dealer I was talking to about this was somewhat clueless.

I guess I will find out soon if the damn thing fits. If not, I'll take it to a muffler shop and see if it can be made to fit.

I was on the phone with the guys from Stromung on thursday, he said specifically that they engineer all of their products to fit with the stock specs. None of their stuff (except their discontinued race pipe) is proprietary in fitting.

I received the mid pipe earlier this week. Just to be cautious and in case there were any problems, I had a muffler shop install it. Bolted right on w/o any problems. They did need to replace a spring fitting where the pipe connects. Not quite sure what this is, but they did not charge me for it.

Sooo, in case anyone is wondering the Stromung 57 mm mid pipe fits the Brospeed/Subaru Performance Muffler just fine. Just got it installed this morning, so not much of a chance to test it out. Early impressions are a good low smooth sound. It is deeper tone than before. Can't wait to drive it some more this weekend and really test it out.
