Post 2001RS w/stock WRX muffler (dual tip)

I may have a chance at buying a barley used 2002WRX muffler. Does anyone think it may give me some performance/tone gain?

Actually the mid pipe of WRX is about 2.5" & then down to 2.25" before entering the muffler so the muffler size should be good for NA RS.

In the future as money comes I want to go w/ Borla header, strange cat, borla midpipe, and most likely a borla dual tip muffler.

But for now...to settle my jonesing for a mod, will it actually sound any better? and will it perform any better. I understand about the sizing and stuff but do I have anything to gain with it?

If I remember correctly, WRX muffler is designed for a turbo application, so it is significantly bigger than the RS muffler. This will cause a loss in low end torque. It will probably give you better high-end power because of better flow of exhaust.

Personally, I wouldn't use the WRX muffler simply because it's too big. I would use STi, Stromung (which I have), or something that's designed for RS.

It looks good though with a dual tip.

Oh, it is 2.5 then 2.25? I thought it was in the range of 2.5 or 3.0 because of turbo.

What kind of sound are you looking for? Loud or quiet? Deep or soft? I like loud and deep exhaust, so I got Stromung. I truly don't know what kind of sound the WRX muffler produce out of RS until you put it on. It won't be loud. It may change the tone of the exhaust slightly. But, not sure.

Definately deep sounding and a lil' loud. Nothing obnoxious though.

with a WRX muffler i don't think you will loose any low end because your midpipe is still stock size. it might be a little bit louder but thats it. you don't gain much HP by changing the muffler.
