Default Coil and coil pack

Please excuse the dumb question. I am confused between the coil and coil pack. The coil is on top of the spark plug? Where is the coil pack? Are they the same thing? I tried a search on this but really count find anything to help me.

Essentially the same thing, although there is really no coil pack in the WRX. A coil pack is usually two or more coils together in one unit and there are plug wires from the coil terminals to each of the spark plugs. In other words, your basic distributorless ignition. The ignition in the WRX is still distributorless, but instead of a central coil pack it uses "coil-on-plug" ignition with individual coils mounted directly on top of each spark plug. So there are four separate coils and no plug wires.

Thanks everyone. I understand now. Must have been reading the wrong section of the subaru wiring manual.
