hmmm, my installer didn't do a good job, and he removed my keyless module... he also didn't hook up my trunk, that's why i did it. interesting though, too bad i already ran the wire. thanks for the heads up. this thread should be a stickie.

I recently got a Python 881 XP car alarm with the optional tilt sensor, field disturbance sensor and a batery backup. My installer followed the instructions on this thread to wire the remote start, but there seems to be a problem with the neutral indicator. The neutral wire does not always send a negative signal when in gear. If I put the car in first it wont send a negative siganl unless I play with the shifter and move it a little while in gear. There are some positions of the shifter while in first that send the negative signal, but if I leave the shifter in first without applying pressure to it with my hand to force it to the position that sends the signal, the neutral wire does not send a negative signal. I have the same problem with second gear. It works beautifully in third. I dont know if any of you have had this problem. I have a short shifter and sti gearset installed, I dont know if this has something to do with it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I'm gonna say these may have caused your problem. Sounds like things aren't lining up correctly in the transmission.

You have a few wires switched...

"grey and black wire from AUX harness is on consistent body ground"
You mean the wait to start input? You don't use that wire. Thats your biggest problem.

"NSS is hook up on the hand brake switch"
I have no idea what you mean here

"brake shut down is hook up on the brake switch underneath the brake pedal which is the black/white wire"
Isn't the brake wire in the car white/black?

How did you bypass the clutch?

veightkiller, I answered your questions in a PM. No need re-posting it here, since all those questions were already answered elsewhere in this thread.

Default just wanted to add...

something to quynce awesome post...

just wrapped up a RS intall on my 06 wrx.
You guys may know this, but ALL the 06 turbo cars all have a factory anti-theft system which acan be easily bypassed by losing a key and using a DEI 556u. But don't go to all the AV retailers for it. I got mine at Target (of all places) for $30. Most places sell the EXACT DEI 556U for $55-60. Or you can get it on ebay-I just didn'want to wait. BTW, NO NEED FOR 556uw.

I also wanted to add that my park light wire was ORANGE, and was wrapped deep in the ign harness that comes from the park switch on the column.

Also, everyone having problems with finding/learning the tach wire:
The voltage sense on all the new 05/06 DEI RS modules (except BOA, and python) are now reliable. No need for tach sense. Josh (quynce) may disagree, but he knows I wouldn't said/done that a few years ago when it was a new feature. I used it on this install (after talking to my DEI guys) and it is working perfect.

---> I am wondering, however, if anyone has located a factory arm/disarm wire anywhere.

Thanks

yeah I know...but seriously, have you seen the new units? onboard relays-***...I don't like it. What are you gonna do.

The volt sense is better now though-if I have any issues I'll be sure to post.

Did you know Bighead is back at 186? What's the world coming to!

Yeah, the onboard relay thing was just coming when I got out. I don't trust it either. Besides, if one fails you have to replace the brain instead of just one relay.

I can't believe they rehired Bighead. Actually, yes I can. But it's still sad.

Yes I have, they are also at the factory keyless mod to the left of the steering colum.

At this point my memorie is failing me so I will have to take my dash off to get you the wire colors.

I do know that unlock requires a double pulse when using these wires.

With all new alarm/remote starts you can program double pulse unlock or you can go oldschool & build your self a doublepulse unlock system with a few parts from radioshack.

Some one pm me about factory alarm arm & disarm wires please,so I don't forget!

The life of being an installer & smelling to many fumes, lol

for the guys looking for the factory disarm wire its in the kick coming out of the door boot , i have it written down in my notes at my house a fellow installer told me about it i will look for it or ask him tonight and post it up ...

also i been reading and skimming in this thread and have one question if you take the black/white wire from the DEI system and tap it to the NSS wire from ECU shoudlnt it work ? it did not say on first page if it sends a - or + out so i wasnt sure ...i just did a nissan alimta 97 and when you put it in gear and sends a very weak + pulse to the black/white which doesnt let car tunr on but when out of gear sends a - to the wire and lets it start ...just need that answeard thanks

oh and i will post up when i get the wire color .

Mystic, from 2002-2004 the NSS wire shows (-) when in gear. 2005+ the NSS wire shows (-) when in neutral. If you are doing a 2005+ you can connect the NSS wire to the black/white NSS on a DEI unit. I actually use the (+) signal it gives in gear to trigger the brake shutdown on the remote start (diode isolated from the real brake wire). That frees up the black/white of the DEI unit to be connected to the parking brake wire in the car.

Pre-2005 most people are connecting the cars NSS to the hood pin input of the remote start.

aight i see , i am looking at buying a 2004 so just trying to collect some info but i want to do it right and just needed to now where the wire was and what polarity it was ....another real quick question does this wire test at all for voltage or should i just find the pin# and color and i will be all set?

I have an '02 WRX with an Autopage RS855 installed on it, well, somewhat installed I guess. I've been having a problem with it remote starting when the car is in gear. I used the NPS, diode isolated to the hoodpin, and for some unknown reason, it will still try to remote start with the car in gear. But when the hood is open, it wouldn't remote start. Any ideas?
Also, just tonight, my alarm started going off showing that my hood was open according to the transmitter. If I'd arm the car, it chirp three times at me saying "hey you idiot, you left your hood open," then a short while later the alarm would go off again thinking the hood was open. I checked to make sure there wasn't some freak chance the hood pin was able to suddenly come up with the hood closed, and it's not. Also with this, I now have no remote start. Wondering if maybe it could be something with the diodes? I really don't know.
I figured after work tomorrow I'd just trace the wires going to my hoodpin and make sure they're all okay and check the connections of the diodes. I can't remember the ratings of the diodes I used as I installed this in my car last year. Everything has been working fine since I installed it except for the remote starting in neutral. Now it just suddenly seems to be all sorts of messed up. I'd really appreciate any help or advice or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

check your diode installation...

nps wire ----> cathode (diode) anode ----> hood pin wire to hood pin input

check your hood pin installation... it may not be properly adjusted, causing it to false.

thanks!

Using a digital multimeter, check the wires in the harness coming out of the alternator. One will test a lowish voltage at idle and then increase with revving the engine.
