Default HELP....Question about Mobil1 Oil Filter

switched to a mobil1 #104 oil filter yesterday after getting the number from a thread some time ago. didn't question it until i installed it yesterday and didn't like the way it only threads on a few turns. did a search and read a thread saying basically it is not a compatible filter and the possibility exsists of the filter coming loose. kind of worried and would like to hear from someone that has used this filter if they have had any problem. i would much rather be safe, and if that means going back to stock, i have no problem with that.

filter coming loose?? sorry but in 4 years of working oncars i have NEVER had a filter come loose. I use Honda filters on my car and they don't come loose. I think some people are just being overly cautious.

Actually, it is quite possible that the Mobil 1 filter can come loose, as it doesn't thread into the car nearly as much as filters that are made for the car (I believe it is 7 threads vs 12 threads, but I'm not sure about that). Most people don't have problems with it though.

I won't buy a Mobil 1 filter until they make one to fit our cars perfectly. Until then, OEM works just fine for me.

appreciate the replys, but with these two i am right back to where i started from. i tend to side with the fact that in all the years i have changed the oil in my own cars the only thing that has happened to the oil filter is that it got tighter, but they all grabbed alot more threads also. really don't want to find out that i sided wrong though with a car with only 5k miles on it. anyone out there that has had the #104 on for a few changes with no problems?

i guess 33k miles worth of oil changes wit honda filters is nothing. Never had oneleak or come loose. taking them off can be tricky.

couldn't deal with the paranoia any longer, so picked up am OEM filter and put it on. the deal with the filter coming loose seems pretty unlikely considering what a BITCH that thing was to get off warm. i'm gonna stick with stock and mobil1 oil until they come out with a filter strictly for subarus.

Until they perfect the K&N, try the Napa Gold filter. It is the best I have seen on the market.
