Download this browser.
It's faster. It's free, only has a small banner add portion of it's GUI (can be removed by paying for the program), which is very unobtrusive IMO anyhow. It also has an option to block all pop-up windows "Refuse pop-up windows". lateRZ |

Check out Panicware.com there free pop up stoper has worked great for me. No ads or banners just a small icon in your task bar letting you know when it is on and when it is stopping popups.

AdAware hasn't been updated in months and can't find the new stuff. Try Spybot:

Yeah it has to be spyware/adware of some kind since the NASIOC site doesn't normally load any popups. You need to get rid of the spyware rather then try to just kill the popups that shouldn't be there in the first place.
And be careful in the future what you download and install on your PC. Those free programs and games often contain hidden spyware inside. I'm using Netscape which I know not everybody likes, but the latest version has a built-in popup killer that works very well. |

Mike, if you have kazaa or any of that stuff running all the time, close it.. those stupid p2p programs constantly generate pop ups when you aren't doing anything. Also get search and destroy from the link above and have it get rid of all the spyware you might have on your computer.

Ad-aware Also I like Avant Browser. It's just an extention to IE, and it also has a built in pop-up killer. Not to mention it's constanly being updated and is only a 800KB download! Last edited by MstrDC; 02-02-2003 at 02:05 PM. |

Sorry, AdAware pissed me off a week or 2 ago when I went there trying to get something to clean up my boss's computer, and it hadn't been updated since September. It's kinda crappy business practice when people pay for your software, and you quit updating it just because you're working on a new version.
Granted, I didn't pay for it, but it doesn't say much for the company producing it |

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think the reason it was happening, is that I accidently clicked on a pop-up and it d/l a program on to my computer. Some sort of scratch-off ordeal. Mike~~ |

POW! from AnalogX. It's the best one I've come across. You can tell it to kill only those pop-up windows you want.

I don't beleive in using pop-up stoppers. I have seen how much stuff that they break. The only time Iget pop-ups is when I am browsing certain web pages.
If you are receiving pop-ups ALL the time (even on NASIOC) then you most likely have a spyware software installed on your machine (like GAIN from the makers of Gator). Adaware is really good, but you are right it is out of date. They are expecting a new version in ?Feb?, but until then you can try the spybot search and destroy thing. Also, with those two applications you will want to look in add or remove programs to remove any software found BEFORE using the software (adaware or spybot) to remove it for you. I hear about this a couple of times a day and it is a pain to fix. If you want some techy details here you go. Some spyware (like new.net domains) modify a registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\WinSock2. If you delete the files without uninstalling it, then it will not remove it's modification and you will not be browsing the Internet AT ALL! Spyware sux. I deal with it EVERY day. It breaks a lot of stuff. OK, I'm out -Fish |

I use Mozilla so i haven't seen a pop-ups in months. But when i was using IE i used Pop-up stopper from panicware. The only one that works 100%of the time.
Reason it works is because you tell it when it's ok to open a second window. |

Check out mozilla, it's great. It's netscape but you have an option to block all pop-ups, at least ones that come from mozilla. It won't block kazaas pop-ups, but it's still great. Mozilla

Try "Spybotz search and destroy" works awesome. I had problems and Adaware didn't work but spybotz did. Do a search on google. It's a free download.

Opera 7 doesn't have the ad banner anymore. And it rocks for killing pop-ups on websites! If it weren't for lazy web designers using Microsloth proprietary HTML it would be the perfect browser.
Anyway, give it a try at www.opera.com . |
