Default Anyone have the stock WRX keyless entry/alarm

Anybody without the "Security system upgrade" package - please test this for me:

1) lock your car with the remote.
2) Use your key to unlock the door.
3) Open the door.

Does your alarm go off?

Again, this is ONLY for ppl without the security upgrade.

Yes it does. I do it all the time. Come out of the store with packages. Open the trunk with the key and alarm goes off.

Yes it does - unless the system in "valet" mode.

I cant get mine to go off for the life of me.

I think it's in valet mode.. but according to the manual, valet mode is only a feature with the upgraded security system.

if you truly have the Upgraded Security System, there should be another horn installed on a bracket on top of the passenger strut tower in the engine bay.

if there isn't one installed there... guess what? you don't have it.

How can you have an alarm going "off" if you don't have a security system upgrade?

So that's why that horn is up there, I was thinking that was a bad place for the horn... hmm learn something every day.
I also thought that there would be no alarm without the "alarm package" I guess it is just the addition of the shock sensors and maybe the valet mode as someone mentioned? wierd.

If you dont have the "Security system upgrade" then you dont have an alarm at all. The stock keyless entry has no alarm. Its JUST keyless entry.

O, I see. I didn't realize the person who started the thread was asking. He must think he has an alarm without the upgrade.

Sorry, hope you don't think I'm a jerk.

The correct response is, you won't have an alarm since you don't have the security system upgrade. I installed my own upgrade ($130 at www.subaruwrxparts.com). Very easy. You just install the brain, the starter kill part, and the horn under the hood. All the wiring is done or included as a harness with the upgrade.
