anyone know if the new WRX key blanks fit in a '00 1.5RS?

Hello.

Newbie here, just bought a '00 2.5 RS. Great car, but the previous owner gave me his spare keys since he lost the original set (he's in California, so I'm not so worried about getting my car stolen...).

I love the new '02+ WRX keys, or even the "fashionable keys" (availible in Japan only), but I don't know if they'll fit my car. I asked two different places, and getting mixed answers. Has anyone done this? They 'look' the same to me... but then again this is a key...

The New Age keys are a bit too thick AFAIR. Look for a thread on the STi keys (with big blue plastic/metal top) and you'll likely see some info from a GC guy who made one work, but it probably wasn't simple.

It's pretty retarded that Subaru made the keys just a little different.

yea, a few gc8 guys did it to their STi keys...basically ya gotta file down the thickness a little so that the key works everywhere..

I don't know if the MY02 keys are the same thickness as the STi key, but I filed down an STi key's thickness and it works beautifully in all locks of my MY01 RS2.5
