Question Offset and wheels...need some advice please

Here's the deal. I'm going to have to put my car in storage for about 6 mos., and I know I'll need new tires (no, I can't put it on jackstands where it's going to be). I figure if I'm getting new tires, I might as well upgrade the wheels to 17 inchers.

Now my question is this. Our cars have a funky offset, right? 53mm? Is there any way to space wheels that have a 45mm offset? The selection for wheels that fit our cars seems to be a bit limited. Any help would be appreciated.

The short answer is no. If our cars took 45s and the populace had 53s then yes, but short of machining the wheel (and compromising its strength) there is no way to make them fit.

Uh... Why would you buy new tires and wheels before putting your car in storage? If you wait six months, I'm sure a lot of wheel companies will start making wheels for the WRX, which in turn will give you a lot more options than what we have now. Save your money and sit on it until then.

The problem that most people have with storing their car is that it is parked on concrete. If your storage place has a concrete floor that you are sitting, it will pull the moisture from the rubber in your tires. This is common for motorcycles that sit over the winter. An easy fix is to place a wooden object under each tire. Prevent any part of the tire from touching the concrete, you could also talk to a tire shop and see if they have some tire dressing that will last that long. Some tire stores should be able to get it if they ship tires. Call around.

I guess I was a little unclear...I plan on getting new wheels and tires after I get it out of storage. The place I'm storing will start it occasionally, but I doubt they're going to move it very much if at all. Thus, the need for new tires.
