Default A few questions about wheel + tire sizing

Hopefully this hasn't already been covered, I tried searching a little but didn't come up with a definitive answer. I am just getting into auto-x and am looking for a good rim/tire choice. I was thinking about running my stock RS rims, with some 215/45/16 Azenis. First of all will those rub, the other suspension mods I have with it is some STi v.6 springs, and KYB AGX dampers. Second of all why is it that alot of auto-x competitors run 16s but in rally they run 18s on tarmac? I am sure there is an easy answer for this that maybe I am just missing.

Those wont rub at all with your suspension.

And they run 16's due to weight, along with the ability to run lower-profile tires which change the rotational diameter of the tires allowing the car to accelerate faster at the cost of high end speed (which is fine for autocrossing due to the fact you dont go very fast) plus you can run some nice sticky tires at that size that work perfect. Also, for stock classes you also have to run 16's due to restrictions If I am not mistaken.

I think your plan there is just perfect, the falkens on a 16" is a very competitive setup for stock classes and ST-S/X.

The only reason to run larger wheels is for clearance for larger brakes. You're on the right track using the 16's on stock RS wheels. The 215-45-16's will also reduce your gearing 5% and of course increase the width by 10mm. I run these on my 01RS with no problems or rubbing on the track.

All of that stuff is good to know, I am looking to run in STS. Does anyone know how off my speedometer will be off with the 215/45/16s? Stock my speedo says that I am going on average 2mph faster then I actually am.
