CEL flashing

well my alarm brain have been falling off the compartment under steering wheel, so I open the cover, and try to stuck the brain in between some wire. after I did that, I start the engine, and the CE light was flashing. so I turn off the engine, and put the key in "on" position. the CE light still flashes on that position. another weired thing is when the key is on that position, my radiator fan will turn on, and there's a clicking sound coming from the relay right next to the fuse box. BTW, I've done fog light on with park light mod before, now I returned everything to original, would that be part of the problem?is my car gonna die pretty soon? thank you guys. Kevin

By any chance while you were under there did you find a couple of connectors (probably green) that were unplugged and connect them together? If so that explains your situation. Those are factory diagnostic connectors that are meant to be left unplugged and if you connect them the results are exactly what you described.
I know these connectors are present in the '02s and Subaru has probably used them in earlier years as well so chances are your car has them.

And if not, find somebody local to pull the code. I'd do it but a) I'm 90 miles away and b) you shouldn't drive with a flashing CEL.

If you're still stuck this weekend I might be heading down to Bothell to do some work and I could swing by to pull the code if I do.
