Alot of people I know who used to work in the computer field have moved onto or back to other career fields. Even I'm starting to consider it. Too much instability.

Sorry to hear that, man. I was with my company for five years too when I was laid off last year. Sometimes it just doesn't mean enough to them.

Sorry to hear that dude. Don't feel too bad tho, at least 75% of the people I know including family members/ friends are effected by the economy nowadays. I guess we all have to be patient and wait till things get better. late.

I hear ya. My entire company got shut down a couple weeks ago. I know it sucks now, but think of it as an opportunity. My motto is "things always work out". Don't worry, you'll find something. Good luck!

It seems like the Tech field is the first to get hit, and the hardest, when the economy takes a dive.

Take it as a sign to move onto other things and another career. Technology companies are going to "trim the fat" in order to stay profitable.

My feelings are that most Americans got burnt by the whole tech-stock fiasco that they'd rather invest their money into something else [ie: BEER].

One of my best friends got laid off from my work last week. About 25% of my friends are laid off right now. I feel like it's just a matter of time till I get the boot. Oh well, cross that bridge when I get to it, I guess.

I won't let the repo man get my WRX, that's for sure. I'll live in the back seat and eat out of dumpsters before I give up my car.

Sorry to hear that man. I am a consultant and it is only a matter of time for me as well.

It hurts sometimes to look around and see people doing so well when all I want is a steady job making 40-50K a year and I can't even do that. 2 college degrees and I can't even get that much. Been trying for 8 years.

Look for a job in the banking industry. Banks are notorious for consistantly being in the black. (Banks need tech people too you know.)

Dammit B_tapper!!! I tried to reply to this and I was logged out! Quit that ish.

Anyway (if you're serious), 'in the black' means said company is making a positive profit. 'in the red' means that said company in 'in the negative' or 'not breaking even' or 'losing money'.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

The economy doesn't seem to be doing very good around here either. Many recent graduates are having trouble finding jobs and are coming back to school for their masters degrees. Not a good sign.

Also, the Sony plant by my house recently announced that it is completely shutting down in a few weeks due to the sagging economy, leaving a few thousand people without work for months. Sony is completely stopping production of their high definition TV sets because there is a severe lack of demand. It must really be bad if they are shutting down the entire factory!

That sucks. I'm approaching my 5 year anniversary at my current job. No way I will get layed off, but I'm afraid our entire company will go under. I'm afraid I will be joining the unemployment force sooner than later. Software industry just isn't what it used to be.

Good luck to you!

Should of had a poll to see what career fields all of us IT people are considering moving to. It would have been interesting.

hey, you're not alone..i got axed this past november. Not a lay-off...but a political situation and my ex-boss thought i was competition for her job or something wacked. I dunno.

anyhoo...IT market is sorry where i live. I've been doing some freelance work, and some short term contract work and working on a business plan to start a business where I get to determine my fate..not some money hungry company

hang in there
