IIRC, there are differences in the GC vs GD struts. I think the back have different spring perch height. I believe they can be made to work if you correct for camber. There are threads on this in the suspension forum - try a search there.
Top hats are the top piece of the strut assembly between the top of the spring and the chassis. They have a rubber bushing - stock is soft while STi is harder. You can also get them camber and caster adjustable and will pillowball mounts. |

They'll bolt up but you will have alignment problems.
We've mounted struts made for the 1st gen on 2nd gen cars and IIRC they needed camber bolts to get the alignment right. |

Don't think so (but not 100% sure), but 98-01RS struts/springs will. A friend of mine has some for sale w/ only about 10k miles on them.
