I use to have a WRX :(

Question Does removing the snorkus lean the fuel mixture?

Now I did a bunch of reading on this subject and I can see how a CAI that moves the MAF would create turbulance and could change readings but does just removing the snorkus and keeping the stock airbox with a ITG type filter lean the fuel mixture.I mean real af ratio proof not he said she said.

Thanks Bill

good question- never thought of it.

anyone?

I'm sure someone has a a/f gauge and can do a little experiment- though that may also be negated by engine mgt, but only time will see I guess.

speed safely

I'm not seeing anything weird with mine removed. Since air still travels the same direction from the box to the airflow meter, I would say that it won't cause a lean condition. The airflow meter still gets accurate readings. -Bolster

No change in mixture with the silencer/snokle removal.

The MAF is still in its proper housing, and any flow patterns that exist because of the silencer/snorkle are wiped out by the filter anyway.

Some CAI's cause a lean condition because they put the MAF sensor in a different housing, in a different flow path. If the intake tube diameter isn't exactly the same shape, the MAF can't determine volume, since all it knows is air velocity.

There shouldn't be a difference with it removed/installed.

I don't think moving the MAF is the problem. The problem is the tubing diameter.

The car idles at 14.2-14.9:1 acording to the Utec without the silencer/snorkle.
