Default Are you SURE that your dealer is getting an STi?

Very good rumor from SOA is that to get STi's dealerships will be required to order $8600 worth of new specialty tools, and $16000 in parts. Looks like some of those "Multi-line" dealers where Subaru is just an afterthought may not be so lucky.

But they won't even get an STi unless they order the said items. No order, no allocation of STi's.

I am buying from a dealer who is several hours away. I have two local dealerships, and was assuming that if you buy from dealer A you can still get repairs etc., from dealer B or C or D. Is the equipment these dealers are supposedly being required to buy related to STI maintence? In other words, am I going to run into a problem if I take my car to dealer B, but he is not selling STIs so he does not have the right equipment?

My small-time dealer told me that for him it is not worth the investment because he would have to buy the tool kit for $8600 or whatever. So it sounds like if you don't buy the tools and parts SOA won't let you sell STi.

Can I presume that the $8,600 of specialty tools are for the WRX STi? If not all Subaru dealers have the tools necessary to properly repair an STi, then how can SOA offer a powertrain warranty on the STi that is good at any Subaru dealership in the US? And I wonder what parts ("$16000 in parts) must be stocked?

i could see them having to order the tool kit, but it seems like they would be able to order parts "as-needed"

That's what they are saying right now. Think of it as like SVT cars with Ford, not all dealers can get them either.

It's hard to imagine that special tools for the STi (new NSM cartridge, etc.) will cost $8,600. But, if you need to stock "$1600 in parts" then 3 STi short blocks ought to do the trick.

Default it's possible

This is an unfortunate possibility. I had been considering ordering an Audi RS6 but the mandatory tool set was so expensive (many tens of thousands of dollars, if I recall correctly) that the dealer decided not to take their RS6 allotment.

Well, I have 6 Subaru dealerships within 30 minutes of here, so I think at least half of them will get STI's Probably all actually.

I don't buy that rumor for a second...

While some dealers might end up not getting STi's, I don't believe it's because SNA requires them to buy $16K worth of parts.
