Angry What's The Deal????

Ok, so i just got off the phone with the dealership I'm getting my STi from and he is now telling me something completely different than what I heard less than a month ago. I was originally told that they were getting 4 Sti's in the first shipment (2 blue and 2 other). I was told the eastcoast was getting 138 split up amongst 65 dealerships. So, I was first on the list and that I would be getting a blue STi. I also put a deposit down to lock in my position. Now he tells me that the eastcoast is only getting 50 in the first shipment and that his dealership will only see 1 everyother month. So, he may not even be getting one in the first shipment and if he does it may not even be blue. So, now I'm pissed because I may not even see my ride until august or so, which then gives me a month or two of nice weather and then into the garage it goes!!! He also tells me that he basically may only see 5 in the year. How is that possible? They are a good-selling dealership. Subaru is making over 5,000. So, how would they only get 5. I'm pretty confused and pissed now. Also, he gave me a choice of rims. Gold and gunmetal are going to be available. What's the deal???????????

First off, don't belive a dealer on ANYTHING.. Secondly, chill out! If you are willing to pay you will get a car. Everyone thought the WRX was limited that first year too, and what happened? No dealer knows what they are getting before they hit the shores. You will get your ride.. and are there really any colors that are bad?

You're going to garage it in the winter? What about the beauty of all wheel drive, and the fact that you're paying $35k (after TTL, etc.) for a garage ornament?

As for your actual issue, no one knows anything at all yet, so just be patient like the rest of us. Besides, the wait will be worth it, don't you think?

yeah, she's going to be garaged in the winter. the winters are just too harsh here in ny state. besides i have an suv for the winters. i'll probably get her out every so often during the winter months, but she won't be my daily driver. as for the wait, yeah, it will be worth it, but i was hoping to have one on the first shipment and now it's possible i'll have to wait another month or two, which i'm not happy about.

By all accounts, STi allocation will be based on the dealership's WRX sales. This seems, to me, to be the fairest possible scheme. Perhaps your dealership is good at selling Foresters to women but not so good at selling WRXes. A dealership that's pretty much guaranteed to receive a truckfull of STi's in the first allocation is Van Bortel, near Rochester, since they're the number #2 retailer of Subarus in the US.

The STi isn't meant to be a garage queen.

Your choices of wheel color are dictated by a company called Subaru Distributors Corp., which is independent of Subaru of America and has exclusive rights to selll Subarus to dealerships in New York and northern New Jersey. If you want the SOA wheel color choices, buy your car in PA.

well, from what my dealership told me van bortel's will only see 2 or so sti's in the first shipment. i'm really not concerned about the wheel color. if i don't like what's given to me i'll just buy aftermarket. u can rag on me all u want for garaging the sti, but i can't bring it to work. i work at a major nys insurance company with a parking lot filled with hundreds of cars. the car will be dented within the first week i bring it there. i've already been told by fellow employees it would be smart not to bring it to work. i'm just going to try and keep her looking perfect. bringing it to work would destroy that possibility.

Your dealership is apparently trying to disguise the fact that they don't know what is going to happen exactly. The only things for sure right now are, based on WRX sales, and Customer Satisfaction Scores, STi's will be allocated. Next, a dealer has to agree to buy the specialty tool kit and a pretty large order of parts before they will be given the nod to even get STi's.

No-one, not even SOA knows exactly how the cars are going to be doled out. (And just for the record it is 4000 units not over 5000)

I dunno if they'll get a truck load. But they'll most certainly get more than a couple. They had ~12 WRXs out behind the building the day before they went on sale. I did get to sit one that day, but they were all sold.

Are you on the list there Jon? I've got the first spot...

Have you decided that an STi is in your future? If so, I'm curious as to your dealer/list strategy...

A birdy told me that Subaru is going to try a little harder to meet the initial demand.

Hopefully the birdy told you that the pricing would be "cheep".

I'm with STI 2 NV. I'm in NY too and one winter with the salt they put down here was all I put on my WRX and the underside looks horrible. My STI will be garaged every winter as well. Jon in CT is out of place to tell you what to do with your car.

As for the car getting here and how many, no one knows until they know. Speculation is worthless.

this is what happened you were promised a car, but the dealer wants room to back out just in case he can get more $ for an early car, so he says well weve got ahrdly any coming and the first one might not be blue, so if someone offers him more money for your slot theyll get it, notice the bait and switch, until you make the deal, he says we've got the car coming for sure, then when you plan on buying from him and dont look elsewhere, then when he has your order he says oops, we might take longer to get your car than we thought, he stil has your order and now can screw you out of it if he can make more profit on it and sell you a car still in a few months, a win win proposition for him, never trust anyone

Here is what I was told about allocation:

"We will tell dealers how many they will be receiving monthly and the dealers will sell off what they will be allocated. Larger dealers with a history of WRX and total Subaru sales will get a larger allocation of STi."

well, this won't hold true in my case. my uncle owns a driving school and buys his cars from this dealership only. there is no chance they would ever even consider screwing me over. they are charging msrp. i don't think they'd want to do something to piss my uncle off when he generates much of their sales.
