Exclamation Pat Richard scores a WRC point in Sweden

Stig Blomqvist has taken the lead of the Production Car World Rally Championship following the exclusion of Polish Mitsubishi driver Janusz Kulig from the Swedish Rally.

On the road, Kulig pipped Subaru man Blomqvist by three seconds, but post-event scrutiny revealed that his Lancer Evo VI was fitted with a non-standard flywheel. Although it was the same size and weight as a standard item, the FIA has deemed it illegal and at the age of 56, 1984 Champion Blomqvist is therefore leading a World Championship once more.

This means Pat moves up a slot and scores a point, well done Patrick, you earned it!

65 Blomqvist 10 10
51 Singh 8 8
55 Rowe 6 6
62 Bourne 5 5
67 Holowczyc 4 4
64 Roman 3 3
78 Sztuka 2 2
76 Richard 1 1

I cannot imagine how hard it must be just to get 1 point.

John,

Supposingly Kulig was disqualified for an illigal fly wheel. I was able to gather from all info floating around that his fly wheel was an actual Ralliart wheel, however it was polished as opposed to the original one, which is not.
My question to you is, why you would even consider polishing your flywheel? Does that benefit the performance or myabe just endurance of this particular part?

I feel sorry for Janusz, at the same time I am glad Patrick is in the points. I wish we had US Rally team at PCWRC as well.

If that was the case , would the flywheel would have been deemed illegal because it is not an original Mitsubishi flywheel from the manufacter ? I'm not sure if that applies as much as Sti is to Subaru. But Ralliart I would consider as much as Prodrive being outside the manufacter itself.

The rules are quite simple, it must use the stock flywheel. The engine didnt have a stock flywheel, hence it's illegal.

Whether that gave an advantage or not is irelivent.
