Default Just looked at UK new style STI

I just got done seriously checking out the UK spec new style STi in the metal, here's my impressions for what they are worth.

- No driver controlled center diff
- 2.0 EJ20 obviously
- 265bhp (Prodrive perf pack takes that up to 305PS and 405NM torque)
- The interior is superb, MUCH better than the current USDM WRX
- The seats are comfortable and supportive
- The shifter is horrible, and first thing to be changed IMHO, it's WAY too tall
- They come with 18" Prodrive P1's here with the Prodrive Perf pack
- Lights have excellent beam pattern and look very good
- Re-designed rear lights are actually very nice in person
- The rear wing, while pretty large, fits the stance of the car perfectly, I would not recommend people delete it, it looks good
- Brembo's all round
- Car seems to sit lower than the 1/4" drop would suggest

Colours:
WR Blue Mica
Premium Silver Metallic
Pure White (special order)
Graphic Black Mica - I hope they bring this colour as an option, it is simply gorgeous.

The car I looked at had the graphite black mica, which is a deep glossy black, with metallic gold fleck in it, it's gorgeous in person. Paint quality seems to have improved too, the clearcoat was a lot glossier than any black USDM car I've seen.

Total MSRP on the road = 24,995GBP (standard without Prodrive kit), which is $40,000 at current exchange rates. So, if the USDM comes in at $32-35, we're getting a very good deal indeed

They also had a UK300 in the showroom, which looked pretty good too. I'll scan the brochure when I get home next week.

Cheers

Rich

We get a 2.5, forged wheels and DCCD, so it seems like an even better deal for us.

What's wrong with tall? Did you mean to say the throws where long? I can see nothing wrong with the shifter height.

It sits far too tall, in fact, it looks downright silly. It looks completely out of place in a performance car to be honest.

Don't forget that the UK price INCLUDES TAX (v.a.t.) at 17.5%!!!Ours doesn't, so don't forget to add in that at whatever your state rate is when you compare.

Getting all defensive so soon....how are we supposed to have a fun debate about shifter heights when you just kill the conversation by retreating behind the "its my opinion" shield so quickly?

I wasn't retreating behind anything, like I stated, it was my opinion.

Robmarch: the last time I checked road going STI/WRX's != WRC car. They have tall shifters for a reason!

Anyway, here's another observation, cars in general in the UK seem to sit lower than their US counterparts (Audi's,Golf, Jetta's, Accords, Civics, Passats etc) - and it sprung to mind that the suspension setup here is probably different given that roads in Europe tend to be more curved, dips etc so the suspension would be tuned slightly more stiff - whereas in the US, roads do tend to be more straight, and the suspension would be tuned to be more compliant. You could surmise that the USDM STI would therefore not sit as low as the UK spec I looked at.

I was much happier with the shifting in my WRX when I dropped the KB SS on, even with the stock knob it was a lot more positive, I guess I am just prejudiced to the reduced shifter height now

A WRX/STI is rally car derived, it's not a rally car! Try exposing your WRX to the same abuse and see how long it lasts . AWD isn't the "rally car" qualification now is it?

I like my shifters with short travel and I don't think the stock shifter delivers that, you may think otherwise, and you're welcome to your opinion.

I can't understand why one comment about the height of the shifter has caused such a ruckus, remember, it's JUST A CAR!

What can you say. The car has a big shaft heh

I personally like a short shaft because you can work it faster lol.

Uhm, please don't take that out of context

That includes 17.5% UK VAT (Value Added Tax) also.
