Default Best way to sell a car locally?

Howdy-

Right now I'm trying to sell my '98 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS, to get into a MY00 2.5RS, and I need to know the best way to advertise it (relatively) locally. I need to sell it as soon as possible, so that the 2.5RS doesn't get sold out from under me. Any ideas? I live about 30 mins North of Sacto, anyone want to buy an Eclipse with 56k mi. for $8000? NASIOC special price All I want is to be out from under this loan, so that I can purchase another car. TIA

-Josh

Hi,

I'm in the same boat... I'm trying to unload a '95 mustang gt (asking $6K but will go lower!) and I live in Davis.

I put it in the local paper (that just resulted in tons of calls from companies wanting me to pay lots to list it online). This ad only ran 10 days but cost me fifty bucks! The sacramento bee may work better than the davis enterprise.

I put it on cars.com. This has spurred many queries, but no follow through so far. This ad was 35 bucks for a month - not a bad deal.

I also put it on stangnet, but that was a waste (but free).

I've got signs on it and I'm parking it in busy places. Also ads on campus or coffeeshops (but what latte drinking poetry reading, tree hugging hippy would want a 5.0 mustang that gets 17 mpg?!).

Anyway, good luck selling! To move it fast, you've gotta sell cheap.

I just sold my 91 intgera in the east bay by running a newspaper ad and an ad in yahoo cars. It helps to put a picture of it up or some people will not look at it.

Default Autotrader

I've sold 3 cars this way - www.autotrader.com

Choose the pay listing and make sure you take lots of digital pics. Offer them up to people in the ad if they email you.

Craigslist didn't generate anywhere near as many leads as Autotrader.com did. I've been getting 2-4 emails a day for my RX-7 from pretty much all over the country. Finally got it sold this weekend.

What he said. My buddy used Autotrader as a tool and sold 3 cars already.

:crosses fingers: Hopefully autotrader will give some results, I need to get this car sold soon. At least it's the only one that's around that price range with milage below 80k mi. Wish me luck

Default AutoTrader

I bought my WRX on AutoTrader about 3 weeks ago. There wasn't anything in the Reno area, but I found a good selection in the Central Valley and Bay Area. I think Autotrader is great for finding specialized vehicles, but for average wheels, the local paper usually works ok.

Best of luck selling your car!

Default Craigslist...

The last three cars I have sold have sold pretty much instantly through craigslist. I have advertised probably 6 different cars in Autotrader and traderonline and not sold ONE as a result of those ads. Before, it was classifieds2000.com and now it's craigslist. Autotrader has never worked for me, buying or selling.

Different strokes I guess.
