I've searched all over looking for "real-world" pictures of the black STi (MY03 rest-of-world, MY04 for US) and have come up empty. I've got plenty of blue and white, one silver pic, but no black...
Also, does anyone know what the difference is between versions: Midnight Black Pearl - US WRX Black - blue highlights Java Black Pearl - (US STi) Black Topaz Mica - (JDM STi) Graphite Black Mica - (UK, German, Australia, etc.) - slightly gold highlight (?) Most of the Subaru sites have versions of the same Photoshop deals or java-plugins. They never do justice to the colors. TRS

From what others have written and photos seen on scoobynet, it looks like graphite black and java black are the same. The new Forrester has this black with gold specs, so you can maybe see it at a dealer nearby. Black topaz? I dunno, but topaz being a blue shade would make me think midnight black US / blue/black (UK, Oz, etc.).

I really want to see if there is any gold in the Java Black Pearl, because that's going to make my choice on the gold vs. silver/gunmetal wheels. I'm not a huge fan of the gold wheels, but if the paint has some 'gold' too it then these would have to be the choice...
Thanks |

Why don't you guys call your local Subaru dealers and see whether they have a Java Black Pearl Forester XS in stock? Then you can see for yourselves what color the paint flecks are.

Good idea to see the color first hand. The pictures of the Forester XT in black look very nice. But...that doesn't help with wanting to see a "real" black STi picture. Seems to be the rarest color.

Thanks LimeyWRX. I found another thread on Scoobynet last night too:
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=172235 Luckily we don't get the Graphite Black, I'm none too impressed with it. Guess I need to narrow the search to "Java Black Pearl"...Oh, and no Java Black foresters at my local dealership. A whole slew of 03 WRXs though...so good deals to be had, I'm sure. TRS |

I had a chance to look at a Java Black Pearl Forrester today. Definately has quite a bit of gold undertones (i.e. gold flecks) in it. However, I didn't like it - as from certain angles it seemed sort of a muddy, brownish color to me (i.e. the gold and black combined for a brownish tint).

Bummer...looks like I may try and change my order from black to white once I see Java Black in person. That muddy thing is what is going on in the Graphite Black too...

Does anybody know what color of flecks are in the graphite black? I thought I had seen a close up of it with gold flecks, but that doesn't sound very "graphite" to me.

I went to see a Java Black Forester yesterday and it does have a strong gold metallic look. It does look nice, but it is not for me. The pictures in the Scoobynet threads seem to have even heavier amounts of goldish metallic than the car I looked at, but I would guess that the "Java Black" and "Graphite Black" are the same color (or VERY close).

While Subaru is working on their styling, get some colors right, too. Midnight Black aka Blue/Black was so much better, and they can't get a yellow right to save their lives. At least white is hard to screw up. ![]() |

Australia's Graphite Black Mica ¬= North America's Java Black Pearl.

He means just =. I think one of the scoobynet links above shows a closeup of the black paint showing the gold specs. Who knows how much you'll notice it, but I'd rather have silver mica myself.
