Default Car-Videos.com estimates '04 STi 0-60@4.59s!?

FYI;

I wonder if you folks are aware of the site, Car-Video.com.

While perusing the STi vs. R-32 comparo posts at VWVortex.com (boring!) someone made mention of the following link; http://www.car-videos.com/performanc...?id1=169&id2=0

For some odd reason after seeing the report provided by these guys I suddenly began to drool uncontrollably.

So, take a peek and let me know if you think these numbers are realistic. The site has a comparison feature which details many various other models including my favorite, the BMW E39 'M5', and appears to be accurate with its info.

Car-Videos.com reports '04 STi times such as:
0-60 in 4.59 s
1/4 in 13.48 s @ 101.14 mph
0-100 in 12.64 s
30-50mph 2nd gear acceleration of 1.62 s
Theoretical top speed of 154 mph

OMG...the waiting is unbearable!

Wink carvideos.com

Take everything you read there with a shaker of salt. Notice also that for the STi all the numbers are estimated as there is no USDM STi for them to test.

Prost893,

I saw that but if you go to their 'Performance Home' link (http://www.car-videos.com/performance/index.asp) it indicates that the stats are produced unsing "Cartest" simulation software (www.CarTest2000.com). Initially when I saw this I didn't get too excited.

That was until I then started reviewing the stats of the other past & current vehicles listed which I've either owned ('92 SVX AWD), operated (all of the Volvo's listed, '02 VW GTI 1.8T & VR6, most of the BMW's except the Z8, amongst many of the other choices) or have other sources to corrobarate the numbers provided (BMW Z8 & M5, '87 Buick GNX, '98 Viper GTS-R).

The sites numbers are accurate for all of the other vehicles I checked which included a wide spectrum of sports cars, family grocery getters, SUV's and a few other 'Supercars'.
Thye have info on a '98 WRX 22B STi which also seems to be accurate as compared to info from 'Scoobynet' (www.ScoobyNet.co.uk).

I pray the '04 STi numbers are very close to reality.
My only wonder is how much this thing will cost to insure...

The only thing I wonder about is the fact that it does 0-100 in 12.64 then takes almost another secend to get to 101.14 MPH (at 1/4 mile) that doesn't seem right to me. Other than that the numbers look great

There will be a shift into 4th gear for the quarter mile,...we are lucky that we'll get 60mph in second , but if third were a little taller, we would get the quarter in 3rd and save the shift which we all know takes .2-.3 of a second, then boost has to build again,...........make sense??

In regards to the using 4th in the 1/4. I race my S4 in the 1/4 (6spd) and there isn't a need to shift into 4th. I don't have gear ratios to post though. If someone could find them, you could find out weather you have to use 4th.

Default 0-60 in 4.8 seconds...

The only official performance information that I have seen has been regarding the Candian WRX Sti. It seems to me that it would be likely that our friends up north would be getting a similar version as the US version. Does this make sense?

Anyway, posted here at http://www.subaru.ca/interface/Subar...Displayed+Desc

it mentions that the STi will do 0-60 in 4.8 seconds.

"...Impreza WRX STi is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.5-litre DOHC boxer engine producing 300 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 300 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm, and teamed exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a sophisticated Subaru All-Wheel Drive system designed to optimize performance in all conditions. This unique drivetrain also provides outstanding torque characteristics at both low and high rpm, taking the STi from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds."

Now I am definietly a newbie to the Subie crowd, but this is the only "official" 0-60 time I have seen coming straight from Subaru. Is it likely that we would get different performance specs in the US than what they are getting in Canada? Also, what happened to the metric system? Why not km/h?

Some other interesting stuff on another "official" subau site, http://wrx-sti.ca , they mention that the canadian Sti will come standard with heated driver seat, 6 disc CD changer.

Now I can see different standard options as being possible for US vs. Canada but is it likely that the engine would be any different? 0-60 in 4.8 isn't quite as fast as what some people have "projected" but it is not too shabby in my book.

I look forward to any thoughts regarding this.

Let's just say under 5 seconds, depending on how much you care to abuse the tranny.
