Default HID Kit from MisterJung.Com

Ok does anyone have this kit for a 2002 WRX installed. I tried to install it last night and it didn't work. I have one question that might help me out.

With the ground and power wire that do not plug into anything coming from the bulb, how do you connect those 2 wires ( I don't care about my high beems)?

Do I need to cut off the factory headlight harness and har wire them or what.

Please help!!!

Thanks,
Richie Rich

I have the kit too. Basically, find the "hot" wire coming from the factory harness, and plug your lights into there. Then take the ground wire from the lights and screw them to the chassis. You don't need to cut anything.

With Subaru's ground switched system you will see two 'hot' wires whenever the headlights are on. The three wires going to the stock headlights are: common hot, low-beam ground and high-beam ground. When the low-beams are on the three wires will read:

low-beam switched ground wire == ground
common headlight hot wire == 12V
high-beam switched ground wire == 12V

Why is the high-beam switched ground wire at 12V you ask? The wire is disconnected from ground when the low-beams are selected, but the wire is connected to 12V through the high beam filament (even if you took out a bulb to make the measurement, the other bulb is still installed).

When the high-beams are on the three wires will read:

low-beam switched ground wire == 12V
common headlight hot wire == 12V
high-beam switched ground wire == ground

What's the moral of this story? Pick the hot wire that is hot for both the high- and low-beams.

Yup, that's what I meant to say, rory just said it much better than I could. If you were just to plug both the hot wire and ground wire into the plug, you'd find out that your lights will go out if you switch on your high beams. Not a very good discovery on the road. So just make sure the ground wire is NOT connected to the factory ground, you want it connected to a permanent ground on the car. Hope this makes sense.

Allright cool. I got it all hooked up. For the stock light just plug the positive into the middle wire on the harness and ground it to the body. Thanks for everyones help.

They look freakin awesome and would never go back to regular headlight.

I do have an issue now that I think is caused by the HID's. Anyone have any CEL issues do to the new wiring. I am going to Auto Zone to get this code pulled but in the mean time any suggestions.

Again I am using the stock headlights with stock housing and am getting a CEL everytime I turn them on. If I leave them off for a few days then it goes away.

Thanks,
Richie Rich

Nothing you do with the headlights should be able to cause a CEL. Get the code read and post it here for more insight.

Well the code was for a Misfire in Cylinder #2. May have been bad gas. I had the guy reset it Sat. Morning at it has not come back yet.

Thanks for all your help. I am finally CEL free now
