$10k is ridiculous. That's 30% of the price of the car!

Yeah, the first time I saw that it was about $2k, now it's more than 10. Anyone that bids is a fool. Sure, you get the car at MSRP, but you're already over $10k in the hole.

Idiots, all of them!

Yeah, I'm in northeastern MA and didn't have any trouble getting a #1 spot either.

A lot of people are interested in the car, but it seems that far fewer are interested in coughing up the cash.

Bertera is bad I think we all know. Steve Lewis is horrible, that's where I bought my car and they screwed me over but Curry is good, I also know one of the salesman there now and he's been hooking all my friends.

The service manager at Curry wouldn't even look at my car just because of my exhaust. Bertera sucks to buy cars from but the parts manager is awesome, and one of the service guys is cool too.

well, I live in Western mass too (Amherst)
I am a business and sales manager for an import car dealer (non-subaru, so I am not trying to sell you anything) .

In Western Mass, avoid Curry, Steve Lewis, and Bertera.

BoostGeek: You say a salesperson has been hooking up your friends? FYI, any salesperson, especially at Curry, has absolutly no say in the final price or what deal someone gets. If he is a good salesperson, he can pull it off so it look is like he does, but he does not. I guarantee this.

lenyx : Curry and Steve Lewis will both try to void your warranty if you have ANY aftermaket parts. Even though it is illegal (Magnussen -Moss act) they will enter the car into the computer as a voided warranty (to send to all dealers) if you have anything. It does not matter what it is. I went in for a power lock problem and Steve Lewis was going to void the warranty when they saw aftermarket Stereo equipment.

Now keep in mind, none of these dealerships can be looked at as direct competitors for the franchise I work for. Also, none of them have a franchise for the same auto.

Now onto Bertera. After leaving Steve Lewis, I brought my car to Bertera for the locks. They said I would have to make an appointment for two weeks out since they only had one tech that could/would work on WRX's. They said they did not trust all there techs with the car., not a warm and fuzzy feeling.

Now onto the reasons not to buy there.
Bertera is the biggest. They use strong arm tactics, and horrible, ancient sales ways to try to sell you anything. An example. A friend went in to test drive a Mercury Mountaineer. When she got back, her car (trade) was gone. She asked where? They had emptied it out, took of the plates, put it into inventory, and already sent it off with a wholesaler. All without her permission, all behind her back. This is actually the normal behavior for Bertera and all their dealerships.
They have also been know to 'lose ' keys on trade ins. They will promise you anything, and will always go back on their words. They will not refund deposits, and will not let you leave the store. I have heard of multiple times when people have called the police on them just so they could leave.

Ok, Curry. Horrible Business office, financing, paperwork, and not a great sales staff. i had interviewd there for a job, and did not take it due to responsibilities and other personell.
Here is a story. I had looked at WRX's there, and they would not let me test drive without putting a $2500 deposit down. No way, left.
My roomate was looking for a 1999 2.5 RS, we could not find one anywhere, and they had one. My roomate was not the smoothest in the sale, and got roped into a huge extended warranty, gap i nsurance which he did not need, and more. All this along with too high of financing and a bad price.
I have since fixed most of the problems and refinanced him, but! When we brought the paperwork in to cancel and get a refund on teh warranty, gap, etc.. it took them 5 MONTHS, calles to the BBB, Attorney General, SOA, Honda (they are a joint dealership), the financing company, and more just to get the full refund. They will openly tell you the bank requires you to get Gap, Warranty, etc.. in order to get financing, even though this is illegal.

Now Steve Lewis. They are not bad, but not much better. When i was shopping for my WRX, this is how it went. Here is my trade, herre is what I want for it (very reasonable), here is what I want for financing and payment. They came up with $51 more a month then I am paying. Thier line? "Wouldnt you rather do business local for a couple bucks more?" yeah, but not for $51 a month/more.
They gave me the price I wanted on the WRX (A locate for $22,700), and then lowballed me on the trade. ('99 GMC Sierra XTD cab, short bed flare side, Z71, leather, in corvette torch red). They offered me $16.5K for it on trade. I ended up trading it in for $19.3 K at the dealer I bought my car from. They sold it a week later for $22K. It was a nice truck

Steve Lewis will also tell you they will prep the car for you for aftermarket (Steve himself has raced. A nice guy, but a little neurotic). They will also be interested in what you are doing, but then will void the warranty. I had them take a look at my WRX a short time back, and they said they would have to offer me less on trade since I had defaced the car with aftermarket equipment. I laughed, and then went and sold it They are also saying now that they will not sell for MSRP, will not put a price in writing, and will be charging at least $2-3K over.

Now, I know this leaves few and far between. I actually got my WRX in CT, and have my STI coming form there too. I can help with good dealers, just PM me or email me. But I would urge all to not use any of these three. It is not worth your time or your sanity.
There is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and a right way to treat customers. Not all dealerships are like this (My dealer has been voted number 1 in the country in customer satisfaction for its brand three years in a row now) but these three are. They are bad, and avoid like the plaque. I think I gave three solid examples to prove the point.

Actually I've brought 3 people to Curry now and he does have a say in price because most of the sales have been right close to invoice. About Steve Lewis they are jerks. If I ever saw the service manager on the street I would run his ass over. Long story on that one. You better be coming to the WMass dinner tonight. Cya.

well, any dealer can sell any car at invoice. If Curry was to sell a WRX at invoice, they would still be making $1500+ Front end on it, before the back end money (financing, warranty, etc..) I will stick by my statement, but no need to get in an argument...soo...

I have had no problems with them at all. My experience has been nothing but positive from the sales dept. to parts and service. Now if someone says that they are number one at Curry, I will be upset....

I've had service done at Curry in Chicopee with several modss on my car including exhaust, bov, Samco's,sways, and a kartboy STS. They never said a word about any of them.

I bought my car at TY Subaru in CT next to the airport. I walked in said I'd like a WRX for invoice and I want 12,000 for my Accord. Ten minutes later, I was done.
They beat Curry, Steve and Bertera by over $1,000 on my trade and still sold for invoice.

Everyone who's anyone goes to the W Mass dinner meets. We will see ya there!!
99's next to Dicks and Home Depot in West Spfld.

One more thing. I think that EBAY 12,000 deposit is BS... Looks to me like the dealership put the whole thing on to attract attention. NO WAY would someone dump 12,000 on a WRX not even knowing which number release nationwide it was.
All bidders were total newbies.. aka fabricated by the dlr.

This is my .02

amazing what good service and great prices can do. I have also made $350 in referrals for sending friends there!
