Default Flywheel/clutch -- Will the dealer replace with mods

After 7K, my flywheel is making a nasty grinding noise on decel. Has anybody had the dealership replace the clutch/flywheel under warranty with BPU mods (exhaust, etc)? If so, what dealership and what were your mods?

Most dealers will turn you away with aftermarket exhausts.

The only experiance I have with subie dealers is subaru of santa cruz. In order for them to do the work, you need to have the stock exhaust on the car. (they will warn you ahead of time which is really )

So should I call in and ask? I dont want to tell them I have mods and then take it in and have them say, "sorry, you're SOL"

I guess that's two -- one okay at carlsen, one okay at santa cruz...c'mon guys I know more of you have had clutch/flywheel issues, share your experiences with me/NASIOC, esp. if anybody got denied!

sorry, misread those, two okays at SC, none at carlsen? They're very "mod friendly" according to the boards...

Uh, well my friend just got his clutch/flywheel/pressure plate replaced for free, and he's running an up-pipe, cat-back (and lowering springs and Rotas, not that those matter). Yes, all of those were in place when they did the clutch work.

btw, that was at Santa Cruz.

If you're really worried, just bring your car to a garage and put your stock exhaust back on. If the garage likes you, it'll be like $30. Or do it yourself, it's not a big deal. We could probably help you more if you actually told us what your mods were.

Well, its UP and DP -- It's not the ability to take them off that is a big deal....just that we all know how much of a pain in the rear the UP is, and taking it off means I have to put it back on again....I just want to make an informed decision on whether or not to waste the hour or two to remove everything then the hour or two to put it all back. Plus I have no leaks on the UP yet (knock knock knock) and well if it 'aint broke dont fix it...

On top of that, this is a "self diagnosis" so it may be something worse, but basically when gear braking/decel, esp. down steep hills in 2nd gear, I get a nasty meshing/chatter that sounds typical of other sports cars running lightened flywheels. I am on the stock flywheel/clutch/pp but I am just saying thats what it sounds like. Also the chatter is not constant, it only happens when the driveline surges or bounces (it's like the car "hiccups" if you know what I mean). It wasn't there when I bought the car, and I use the car to commute, I never did burnouts/clutch dumps/drag racing...The noise just slowly developed.

Am I to believe that only 3 BAIC'ers have had clutch/flywheel issues on modded cars?? Share your experinces, people! Especially if you were denied and where!

Sounds like basic cluth chatter. Just take it somewhere and mention the clutch TSB. You should at the least get a new disk, late, and flywheel out of it. If that don't fix it, go back to stock and tell them it's broke.

hi
what did the people that got the new clutch and flywheel have that warranted the repair?

i have clutch shudder...happens when its cold and i have to slip the clutch mabye a few times...not high rpm slips at that.

then it goes away..by the time i make it to the dealership....the problem will have gone away.

clutch shudder doesn't really bother me.
i dont like the clutch noises on high deaccelleration..but everyone has it and it hasn't been an issue. the only gear taht i have problems with is 4th gear. something is off with 4th...
i can shift into 4th just fine.

but if i am shifting without the clutch...haha...which i dont know why i do sometimes...it will grind....i can shift into all the other gears without clutch fine. (praticing for my DOG BOX! haha)

haha...sorry for hijacking...but i need to know. i want a free clutch too.

thanks
alex

Leave it there overnight and tell them to test it first thing in the morning, the bay area dealerships (carlsend and SC) usually give out loaner cars if that is an issue...

My friend had his clutch/pp/flywheel replaced at 7K miles for clutch shudder by carlsen, although he only had wheels at the time.
