Angry Stromung midpipe woes

I just slapped in my SS Stromung midpipe last week (car has 19,000) and I DID NOT replace the dreaded donut gasket with a new one. Everything SEEMS OK.

My question is, is it advisable for me to put that new gasket in after the fact?
I just cringe at the thought of putting my car up on jack stands and crawling under there again. But if i should, then I will.

Also, I noticed that on the cat end of the midpipe, the flange seemed to only be "tacked" on in a few spots. I assume this is part of the design and not an oversight in production, right? Does the "donut" seal those holes?

signed,
confused

Yep. Just ran my car and took a look under it. Water leakage from the "donut". Also just noticed it is leaking water from the axle back/midpipe flange too

Like I said, the donut is the origonal, but the axle side gasket is new from Stromung. I tightened the crap out of all the bolts, so I hope it's just the gasket. Anyone else have this problem?

Is it leaking water? Or is it leaking like its condinsation like how smoke comes out of your exhaust when its cold and you notice there is some water in your exhaust tip.

When I start it up, and look under the car, it's fine. After about 10 sec., water starts forming around the flange (cat side) into droplets. It will just constantly drip drip drip, and build up (what looks to be around the donut). The more I look the more it is obvious it is the gasket.

Also, I think I fixed the axle gasket problem with a new autozone gasket.

Well, i let it idle for about 15 minuites and the drops seemed to slowly stop forming. I guess I still should get a new donut gasket???

What I'm saying is, are these water droplets coming from the cat to mid normal, or a sure sign of a leak? I know there's some play with the spring bolts, so I do not know if any of this is acceptable.

Edit:
ran the car again at night with a flashlight on the spot. I could see the water vapor blowing out of there, so it is definetly a leak. I have heard of people needing spacers to get the donut further into the bigger diameter Stromung pipe. That doesn't sound right, since Stromung makes these specifically for these cars. Please tell me all I need is a new donut! (No sprinkles!)

I have the dual Stromung setup with the midpipe on my car and I have not used a "donut" or gasket between the cat and the midpipe and I don't really have any problems.
I would probably fabricate a gasket in between the cat and midpipe once summer hits...if someone was to tell me that I should do that because there would be problems that might arise. but so far... car runs fine with more than 10K miles with the Stromung.

btw.. i think it might just be condensation u are worrying about.

Nope, the midpipe replaces a resonator, there are 2 cats:

One right before the midpipe, and one in the headers.

^ yes, as i learned in my other thread tonight, the cat that i thought was replaced was actually a cleverly disguised resonator.

the flange at the far left is the beginning of the resonator. the cat-looking this is a resonator, and the cylinder is also one. the bulge in front of the flange is the rear cat, that is not part of the midpipe. hope this gives you a better idea of what the midpipe replaces.

I thought Scoobysport only makes the muffler for the WRX, not the 02rs. Can I ask where did you get it from and at what price?

thanks

wow, im glad to hear that i dont have to replace the cat. your right though Jasona - it is cleverly disguised. Ive had it up at a minekee and the guy told me it was a cat and he couldnt touch it. we were standing under it together and i told him that i had heard that it wasnt! Now to convince him that its not a cat!!!! i dont know how im gonna do this!

Kucheto - i couldnt resist! the scoobysport i have is for the wrx, i had to have minekee cut off the flange and rotate it to fit onto my 02rs. i paid the standard 5 bills for it but i am extremely happy with it, and i did not want to go for a coffee can exhaust. great sound, slight performance gain. if there is anything else i can answer for you let me know.

can anyone comment on the sound? if im getting rid of these two resonators will it be obnoxiously loud? i want to make my exhaust louder (scoobysport is soundin kinda muffled right now) but at the same time i dont want to be obnoxious. Im afraid if i get the stromung resonated it will be too quiet.
also can you guys give some more info on this donut gasket? and how to prevent leakage? does the pipe come with everything i need?
thanks fellas
Pat
