Where is our USDM Nav system?
Seems as if all the Japanese versions of the WRX have an option for a navigation system, as shown in the link below.
http://www.subaru.co.jp/impreza/sedan/07/index.html Are they available for us? I know I'd be the first to order if they were available on the US spec STi models.

Not really on topic, but..
Those NAV systems always seemed like way too much money to be spending.. Just get a Dell AXIM PocketPC with a GPS module and you're set, for half the price.. I guess I'm just not a baller like you.. |

GM's OnStar is Subaru's USDM telematics supplier and they don't do navigation.

I really wish the Subarus came with a NAV option from the factory. Even the top of the line VDC Outback does not come with a factory NAV.
I would love to downsize my Acura 3.2TL with the Navigation system, to a smaller car but none of the small cars come with the NAV. As far as the comment above about factory NAVS, they are equipped with gyro-sensors and dead-reckoning technology, which is not available with the cheaper systems. You get what you pay for ! I use Hertz neverlost Navigation while on business trips and get pretty frustrated using that stupid thing....it is certainly a relief getting back into the kick-ass Acura. |

well.. but whenever he needs to change A/C settings.. he needs to fiddle with buttons on the nav... (forgot whether it's on screen or not)... too much trouble for me... I rather keep a map in the car... and give me the simple control A/C and radios... since I like to keep my attention on the road while driving.. |

Have a look on Crutchfields website. They've got a couple of indash systems and LCD display systems for roughly what you'd pay for it from factory.

But personally, I feel they should have included the fan speed and a/c buttons separate from the Navigation controls. |

$400 offering that ? Ha ! Like saying driving a Mercedes S500 and driving a Toyota Echo are the same ! Yeah, right. As I stated earlier, I drive Hertz rental cars equipped with the Hertz Neverlost Navigation system - similar to Garmin systems. For the price they may be okay, except that they grow really helpless when there is a lack of any signal like when passing through a tunnel or a thick group of buildings. High-end systems use dead-reckoning technology to operate even in the complete lack of any satellite signal. El-cheapo systems would only get you so much....you get what you pay for.
