Question Is it safe to switch to summer tires yet? It is March after all...

I'm in South Jersey and I am sick of only being able to go fast in a straight line on my snow tires. They have no dry cornering grip at all...even though sometimes I feel they are better than the re-92s were

Plus I cant go over 108mph speed rating on them. Not like I do that alot anyways though.

Still I am dying for some 225-45-17 cornering grip! Should I? Weather.com extended forecast says not snow through March 12th but I dont know whats in store beyong that.

Someone decide for me! Flakens Azenis are teh roxors and I need to grap on my tired badly!!

I was in my garage cleaning my Attacks up today debating the same thing. I'll give it to this weekend and then if still no snow forcasted I'll put em back on. That and im going to maine the frst week in April. My tires I have now are rated at (I think) 108 also. Theres a few choice streches in northern VT where 120 isnt uncommon for me on these trips.

Guys don't forget that winter tires are not only for snow, they are for cold weather, so "summer" tires compound will not be effective in the cold weather. We saw a nice car spin off the track down in VIR a few weeks ago cause the were running R-compounds and they never came up to temp cause it was cold.

Just be careful.

Yeah with mine I may have AWD but the Falkens are like four skiis on my car. 8 wheel drive wouldnt help me with that.

Paisan is right about the compound.

Don't forget that March can be one heck of a month for snow. Don't rush, enjoy the snow a little while longer. It can even snow in April and sometimes it's those thin snow layers that rack you up. For now, just go straight into spring.

Don't know about South Jersey, but we have a lot of ice from the melting snow. There was the bad accident on Rt. 80 (see LamarVannoy's post) the other day.

On Saturday, this bonehead in a Grand Cherokee to my left was making a left turn at a light to get onto I-278. He hit the gas too hard and did a mad fishtail a few times back and forth. Luckily I backed off when I saw him. Otherwise, he would've smacked me.

Resist temptation.
Let them fix all potholes (at least largest and deepest). Just imagine your nice 17-18's ugly bended and scratched and bulges on those low profile tires

It's still snowing every day up here... My RE92s stay off until after the last winter rallycross or road rally, which ever is later.

A good point about the potholes. I feel like I am constantly slalom testing my car going to work dodging potholes the size of a Kia Rio.

I think the "tall" 55 series profile has saved me a couple times at night when i couldnt see the potholes coming.

I heard that we have snow forecasted for NYC on Thursday.

I'll probably wait until April to put my summer tires on.

I think ill wait till we get some steady 40degree weather happening. I do remember my So3's doing some nice slip-sliding on cold mornings last fall.

30 minutes to change tires... my snows go on the night before a storm and come off when the little local roads have cleared up. but that only works because I have a garage to change them in, and the tires are stored 5 feet from the car...

This is my summer tire pattern, so they will probably go on in April:
